general question

hello all,

I'm encountering a problem with potency (I think). I've been growing for about 4 years now and this hasn't happened before but here is some info about my setup....

HPS 250 in the closet
excellent ventilation
No AC so it gets kinda hot and occasionally humid (sometimes)
Soil mix - some soil some peat moss some perlite
Ferts - I'm done fertilizing for a couple weeks now (used flower stuff from store, nothing fancy)
occasionally used hydrogen peroxide - i don't think I mixed in too much with my water, but if that kills potency when there is too much maybe thats my prob but it hasn't been an issue in my past grows

i'm growing skunk and maui wowiexskunk, as you can see from the picture my yield is going to be pretty good for 2 plants under a 250

My prob is...my plants are about 6 weeks flowering but since I am moving before they could finish at 12/12 I changed the light cycle to 11/13, which I know is not optimal but I have had to do it before under similar circumstances and had pretty darn good results ....the weird thing is, is that the plants virtually do not smell I have to put my nose basically on the buds to smell anything, and I snipped a little off yesterday just to see if it had any potency at all, and I didn't feel any kind of THC high, the last crop I had of my bagseeds that I've been growin all this time I had to chop at around 5 and a half weeks and it actually gets me really high. I guess I'm wondering if I'm counting my chickens too early or if this has happened to anyone else, any feedback would be greatly greatly appreciated.

Thanks

welcome to icmag.. well I don't really know about the potentcy and smell ordeal..but it might come back when its curing? or plants are too close...yeah I am not sure about that..

but if you want it to finish faster you definitely have to put it less than 12 not over 12...like 10/14 or 8/16 etc..

That plant is way too big for that style closet.

I use a 250w MH in the same style closet for my veg:

You can fit a lot of little plants in that room with that light for much better results. Were you trying to SCROG with that chicken wire? Add it later than you did this run, next time.

Do you have a thermometer? You want to try and keep it under 80°, and never above 90° for most strains. High heats make fluffy airy buds, and can make plants stretch.

As far as potency you may want to try some different strains and see what you like. Try using better nutes, Pure Blend Pro is easy to use and find. Additives like Hygrozyme, Liquid Karma, big bud, overdrive, and dark energy can do wonders for a plants health and a healthy plant is a healthy producer.

Dont use peroxide in soil unless your having fungus/mold problems. It kills any beneficial microbes/fungi in the soil.

thanks....and another question

thanks....and another question

Thanks for the reply, I will try to grow more plants next time and keep'em smaller, I'm confident my temps aren't above 80 since I leave my closet open all day and open my doors for the cool night air (plus fan), and also, the skunk plant in just the last week has gotten semi-smelly and covered in milky trichomes and the hairs on the main cola are about 20% changed so all the signs are here for pot that may be done soon soon soon. I think the wowie just has a little too much sativa influence and is naturally taking longer but I'll keep my fingers crossed, the hairs are changing but the resin isn't fattening the glands which leads me to believe I'm just rushing things along too fast for that gene(which is necessary on account of moving).

Question: If I were to grow 8 smaller plants instead of two big ones what is the suggested size for my container.

Thanks again for the replies

I never flower in anything smaller than 3 gallons, and prefer 5.

You may want to think about building a soil bed. A lined wooden box full of soil will let the plants grow massive root systems and make for some killer yields.

Thats actually what I have always done in my closet grows....is grown multiple plants in the same container..... I have just been told by many people its abetter idea to grow in several pots in case there is a problem with one I can simply remove it without getting the others sick....but I haven't had any problems yet (fingers crossed) and its tough to grow multiple plants in a very small area when you're using up so much space with each plant in its own container.....of course, what I could do is make one large wooden lined box like you had mentioned except perhaps make dividers in the box to give each plant its own root space?? who knows though with this hobby... I guess this is why its so fun...oh yeah, and I like to get stoned, that probably has something to do with it too.

Oh yeah I almost forgot.... I thought I'd mention why I use chicken wire...I've done this for my past couple grows with excellent results....
1. I've gotten bigger buds by allowing the branches to rest on something the effect is similar to tying branches to give them more support, one time I took the chicken wire off to reposition it and the branches all fell completely sideways...I was like, holy crap
2. I can manipulate the braches so that I'm sure all the bud sites are getting maximum exposure, and also if they are geting too tall I can use it as a semi scrog dealy
..Truth is, I don't know how much it really helps, but I think it does a little, and I enjoy doing it, and I guess thats the most important thing..havin fun

Thanks for the advice again I am looking forward to moving and getting a new grow started....and this time I'll have a walkin closet to grow in :woohoo:
