Not much laughter when some poor soul realizes that their less than a year old high end LED fixture is getting shipped back to the maker with them picking up the tab for shipping both ways.

Using LED's exclusively is right up there with growing indoors with autoflower seeds.

Doesn't matter what light system you use, due diligence is having a backup plan. Yes, you can 'fix' most HID ballast issues in a short while by yourself, but having a backup ballast is much smarter. I've had dual lamps for my gardens in case of emergency for over 10 years, and I strongly recommend others do the same.

Simply a biased opinion!

Poor souls burn themselves no matter what. Lumen maintainence is still much superior to any hid lamp and older leds will still be brighter per watt compared to hids. No need to be bitter for no reason, everything fades with time and use.

I remember the first indoor cannabis grow I saw with 2, 4' 2-lamp flouro lights over a makeshift E&F. Crazily enough, I never seriously thought about growing till I was in my 30's.

Times certainly have changed, and yes the technology is getting wicked. :) Top of the line, ceramic based LEDs from 2018 have been rated at less than a 10% drop in output over 10 years of 12/12 lighting. The real time testing is turning out better so far.

Between that and the advances being made with discrete spectrum, LEDs awesome. :)

lumens/mols/footcandles
Can we settle on a base
How about a bases
Renewable energy
And low watt high output is the way.

Yet how much is yield effected
We still have so not a clue
When the basic terminology
Is still being decided upon.

Well help a brother out and please direct me to the maker of these lights that you speak of if they offer a plug and play system that i can sell to my customers.

That I'm aware of, at least Samsung and Cree are producing ceramic based LED chips now. I'm sure you've heard of the LM301B from Samsung. How many LED 'grow light' companies are using these chips now? You're probably already selling them.:tiphat:

Well shit ether someone is fudging the numbers or the design/utilization of the chips are off 'cause the failure rate and rapid lumen drop on those fixtures is still far from acceptable for customer retention on a retail level.

PS tried to find my conceding font but couldn't, sorry.

Interesting, mind sharing some details? The chips have been around for just about 2 years, and you have customers with greater than 2% lumen loss?

There are many chinese suppliers said they use LM301B. But actually it is LM301H. I heard that samsung only offer 301B for USA brands?

LM301B and LM301H are (from what I've heard from multiple sources) the exact same chip. Same binning, same output, same efficiency, all of it. The only difference is the H for "horticultural" use and, in a lot of places, a higher price tag for the H.
