Gavita remote, RFI, Ferrite Core, questions

Hello everyone,

I have a Gavita Pro remote ballast, use a light box, run at 240v - with a nice big magnum agrotech type hood.. I choose this setup after careful consideration and a lot of research (also considered ac/de reflector but went with open option for now)

Long story short, running this one remote digital ballast with its 15 foot output cord connecting the reflector caused major RFI issues. I was surprised that one ballast would produce so much interference, but sure enough, perhaps due to where cables run, internet got filtered, and I had to fix things.

I cut 12+ feet of cord off, which I think helped a lot, but I am still concerned, and was wondering if anyone of you tech guys knew anything about ferrite cores or ferrite rings to help stifle the noise even more? I understand that the all in one fixture is a better option, but I have short ceilings and needed as good dispersion as I could get. Any ideas about this are welcome.

Thank you

Well, I suppose I will give em a try, I think you can get a set pretty cheap online, and from what very little I can find in my amateur attempts, it has a possibility of helping, and might also be used on the cable/internet cords as well, although I have not found it used for this application.

I just am curious, as I vaguely also recall some reasoning behind why the wires were not shielded (or whatever it is called) in the first place.. possible interfering with the output from the ballast to the lamp?? But I cant recall and am only piecing it together.

I'll give it a shot and try to remember to report back for future reference.

All are welcome to chime in, I freely admit to not knowing what this is all about. Please correct me.

Ferrite cores are basically those little things on the end of laptop cables that, from my limited understanding, stifle RFI. There are other examples, such as in smaller circuits, but I am more interested in the first kind.

Thank you for any consideration.

Cool thread. I have a gavita digistar. Im kinda worried about the rfi, so now the cable is only a foot long.

Im currious about anything related to gavita and rfi problems.

Lol i could always build a faraday cage around my tent, but id probably buy a magnetic if it was to big a deal
