Russian Red Garlic, my sister says ther is not much better in garlic world. Canada has it but it can not be shipped to the US, legally. Sound familiar? Kind of funny! 1 bulb is made up of about 5-6 'seeds'! And I cant get any here in Florida.. anyone have any US 'connections'?

I'm no expert on growing garlic, but I eat it daily and I've been told that the climate is important for growing garlic and the best garlic doesn't come from tropical areas. Warm climate grown garlic is usually mild in my experience, garlic from cool to temperate zones is much more potent.

This outfit isn't showing any Russian reds, but lots of others including a Siberian. If your sister has some of that Russian red, she should share it.

My sister is a teacher... she ate it all.. I didnt get a single clove.. she never gave any thought to growing it... lives in northern NY state.. she'll get to Canada before long.. I'll get some.. sooner or later.. and I get it, siberian/russian.. sounds logical, have you tried any of it, seamaden?

JD, that sure looks like what he was asking about. I didn't think they'd have it so I didn't even look. PVFS is a good outfit, too.

Not yet, and who knows when I may get to. I tried growing garlic and shallots last year, when I was hurt, and got the teeny tiny single cloves. Spanish Roja was what I was growing. So, single clovelets means that I have to replant this year. I'm not going to spend any more money trying to grow these things out til I get it right.

Wood Prairie has it, as does another company I can't remember. This I learned after doing a search which I usually suck at btw!
It is expensive though, $20 a pound at WP and 15 at the other place. The local farmers store has Ukrainian red for like 5 (same thing?).

I was told that RR garlic is grow widely in Canada. BUT! and I haven't done a lot of research, the Canadian Govt prohibits export of it. as governments go, I can believe it. it is strange though.

OTOH, I recently was gifted 4 heads of RR garlic and have found that it will grow in Florida, is best planted in the fall (what a coincidence) and harvested early summer..

It is quite potent and nice enough to go out and buy the necessities to grow (on a small scale) some of it. I will go search on growing it but 'this' is the first place I come to find out about any nuance of growing anything. go to the pros.

sun, water, sandy well draining soil and ??? anyone know what nutrient profile they prefer?
