furnace filters and basement clean-up.

Building out a new place with a small 2 tent grow ..3600w bloom total. The basement is pretty rough in this mid 1920s home and I noticed that the current furnace filter is super clogged with dust. (Not sure when the last time the home owner changed it).

The basement also takes on some water during heavy rains. After ensuring the downspouts are taking water away from the house and built up the earth around the house we still get water rolling across the basement floor during hard storms...coming in two areas of the basement pretty much.. and ultimately rolling to a floor drain.

Needless to say while were doing our best to clean it up. A sante fe commercial dehumidifer is now on site so it wont be any problem keeping dry from here on out. Tents will intake from basement and exhaust to unused 2nd floor bedroom with window cracked open.

I have a few questions.

  • Any tips on "water proofing" the areas in which water is coming in. I've cleaned it up and painted it some basement grey paint (was given to me.. I forget what it was), but water still permeates it. Any super good shit to seal up the foundation from the inside?
  • Would like to put a good furnace filter in and get the home owner on a schedule of changing it (or cleaning?) when needed. Will run the furnace fan 24/7 so that the house is constantly circulating. What brand/type do you prefer and your maintenance schedule?
  • I also would like to place a furnace filter in front of each of my tent's passive intake. I'm not sure if temp will even allow at this point, but we'll have to see. Whats your favorite brand/type of filtering tent intake air.. something high flow to stop the nasties?

So lets here it. How do you clean up a grow spot?

I'd love to full on waterproof/vapor-barrier..sealed drywall the space, but right now the permanence of such grow doesn't warrant the time or investment. Still want to do what I can do however so we can crop two 5x10 tents without issue. I've got the tents/gear and a pro dehumidifier.

PS - A dog also resides in the home so pet hair/dander is also present. It is however an all wood floor home...so no carpet.

*block foundation.. cracks and such.

A few coats of kilz should do it. Just tell the paint department worker at Home Depot You would like to seal up ur block basement walls, they'll guide u. HD also has furnace filters, just grab the best one.

The very least I would do in your situation is first disinfect everything. Then hit the cracks or leak points with ugl fastlock, then liberally apply several coats of drylock to all the walls. Then do a good kilz latex primer. Honestly until you solve the leaking issues, I dont see the location as usable.. also be on the look out for mold.
