From lurker to grower early 2014?

Hi guys!
I'm planning to start this (I expect to be) awesome hobby early 2014. But I'm in need of some pointers before I make the purchases.
My goal is to pull no less than 100g each cycle. I have decided to use a tent, and hide it inside a closet for stealth purposes.

I have looked at Secret Jardin DR40 that is 40x40x120. But will it be big enough to relatively easy pull the 100g? If it is possible, what kind of lightning do I need? Could this be achived with 1-2 hans led panels, 200w solarflare or maybe a 150 hps. Or will it get to hot? I could also with some modification go for the SJ dr60(60x60x160), but if it's possible with a dr40, then I probably won't bother at first.

Your on the right track. I would stay away from the leds and just go with 150-250 watt hps setup. Just make sure your exhausting all of that hot air out of the tent and your should be fine

Would a 150 watt hps be sufficient for pulling 100g? And I'm worried the 250w and maybe the leds(?) would limit the effective space cause of heat from the lamp.I know I can use strong fans to cool almost anything. The fact that the tent is going to be placed in a closet, makes me worry about the noise would destroy the reason the tent is out of sight, and also my sleep.

Is it possible to get it cool and quiet enough with some good fans? Is a coldtube an option, or would it limit the space too much? Or would the easiest be to buy the Dr60 and go with a 250w hps or some leds? And lightning is something I haven't
quite decided on. Cause space and temperatures are limiting factors I don't know what would be the most optimal.
Have seen growlogs where the result with leds have been outstanding, and the hps is a classic. But I haven't seen growlogs that used what I understood are quality leds in such a small tent. So if anyone has some knowledge they would share about leds, leds + pll's, do share!

For growing in a wardrobe with hot lights remember that you'll need to vent the air from the tent *outside* of the wardrobe, otherwise your fans are just moving the heat about inside a hot wardrobe/tent.
So have you got a plan for the vent? and you'll need a filter on the vent if you're trying to hide the smell from anyone who might live with/visit you.

LED's usually struggle to meet the yield of HPS in my experience but they aren't hot and are very energy efficient so they will cut down your running costs and you'd not particularly need to vent the heat.
CFLs are a nice middleground between LED and HPS. Not that hot (but still don't touch the bulbs lol) not as energy demanding as HPS, but with good lumen output.

If you are getting an HPS I'd recommend getting a Metal hallide bulb aswell, use MH for Vegetative growth and then switch to HPS for flowering growth.

You can increase yield by longer veg times, how long are you planning each cycle to be?

I just pulled 4 oz from 4 plants in a cab grow with a 150w hps.

Check out the growlogs in my signature and let me know what specific questions you have.

Welcome to this wonderful hobby... Its more addicting to grow this plant than it is to smoke it!

I was thinking to cut a hole in the back of the wardrobe, and exhaust through there. And of course use a carbonfilter and have negative pressure. I'm thinking to grow from seed to harvest in the beginning, and hopefully manage to get 100g each cycle. After a few runs I'm thinking to clone to cut the time for the plants to finish.

I haven't quite decided on the grow medium yet. But atm I'm thinking to give the hempybuckets a try. And will probably scrog cause of the limited space.

And Budelight, nice grow! Some real frosty girls you got there!
Was the temps in the cab easy to controll? Whats minimum distance to the plants with a 150?

hi worrytrain. I have a dr60 and I wouldn't want it any smaller. check out the link in my sig may give you some ideas. I think I could approach 100g with my setup, with the right strain, pruning etc.

I guess it's the best to go for a dr60. Looked at the wardrobe again and realised that it's just a few really easy modifications to make it work.
Nice ladies! Thats the kind of frostiness I would like to get A combination of pll and leds is also a possibility. Probably going to buy the pll's first, and at a later time buy some leds for supplement.

The DR40 is fairly small. A 55w PL-L bulb is about 2 feet long, so those wouldn't even fit. You can just barely squeeze four 55w PL-L's into a DR60. It will work, but you would want to scrog to get a nice even canopy that you can keep the PL-L's just inches above.

As someone else said, with an HPS or MH you will need to exhaust air to outside of the closet. With PL-L's, it will depend. If you can leave the closet partially cracked open it might fly, but it might not. I don't have enough experience with LED's to say how much less the heat load would be vs PL-L's

You want 50watts per square foot really, so that should give you an indication of what light you need. A gram per watt is achievable so a 250w is capable of hitting around 8-9oz, if your environment is good there's no reason why you can't pull 250g from 250w. Rather than place the tent in a cupboard and you thought about converting the actual cupboard?
