So I cracked open my veg box (closet) today to find a web with some lil pests in it. Was I 1st thought to be spider mites I was FREAKING! until I bought it up for a closer look to what seemed to be dead flies in a spiders web. I have been having a white fly problem sense the summer is nice and hot now. And was shocked to see what seems to be predator to those ****en flies. The spider that lurks in the web is about the size if not a hair bigger than the flies in pic let me know what u think.

FRIEND OR FOE?

should he stay or GO?

All spiders are friends. Your only concern is if he starts spinning webs over your buds in which case I'd capture the little guy and relocate him outside, but if he's keeping to himself in just a small part of your plant i'd leave him and let him keep killing flies for you

I had a brown recluse right inside the door to my grow area for the longest time. We got along great. He ate any bug trying to come under the door, and I didn't want bugs coming under the door :D

It was all good until his buddies moved in and got greedy. Then I carpet bombed them all with Diatomaceous Earth :biglaugh:

Diatomaceous earth, my new best friend. I have completely eradicated pest problems at my house with this, not just in the garden. Love the stuff.

100% safe to use around people and animals. Actually beneficial, and used orally as a de-wormer in animals and GI health in humans. It's these little fossilized phytoplankton. Microscopic little things, they fossilized into these little dust specks.

Now, on the microscopic level, the fossils have lots of points and edges. Combine this with the fossils being 95% silica, and you get the ultimate bug weapon.

When an insect crosses the DE, it's like walking into razor blade carpet. The little edges slice open the exoskeleton, and then the silica effect comes into play. As I'm sure you know, silica is a dessicant. So instantly when the exoskeleton is breached, the DE begins sucking the internal fluids out.

Bug death, period. Wipes em all out, big or small.

Worst known side effect from inhaling it is sneezing. 100% safe. I love it! :D

Googled it right now and did a little bit checking out the microscopic pics of it and it looks deadly! Now how much to buy 10 lb ? To rid pest from my house and garden and what is your "special" way of applying this great stuff to your garden and home. THANKS A BUNCH!

I think I got mine off Ebay, for like $11 for 10/lbs.

As for application, I just sprinkle :D

If I have to apply it to vertical surfaces, I'll spray on some adhesive and just toss on the DE.

for plants just sprinkle leave on the top of the soil? and to remove do you just water over it? what about carpet application throw all over the carpet? or outline the permiter of the room or area where bugs may come in from?

I put it around the baseboards, pipes, backs of cabinets, all the usual spots for pest stuff. For plants, I just throw it on. I get some on the medium too, even though I'm watering through it. I figure it carries down into the media, providing not only a measure of protection against root zone bugs, but a silica source as well.

I can tell you I think so much of this stuff that I wouldn't think one second about putting it on plants 2 weeks from harvest if I spotted mites or something. Not something you'd say about most insecticide treatments.
