free electric concern

ive got a slight concern on my electric and would apreciate your thoughts on this.

i bought and moved into my house prob about 18 months ago, after about 4 months of living here i realised that i hadnt recived any electric bill,
when the missus phoned them up the elecy company said that we were on a key meter so wouldnt recive any bill, the missus said ok ill speak to the hubby about it. (they did send me an electric top up key when we first moved in i chucked that in a draw and forgot about it)
the thing is we dont have a key meter, i dont know if there was ever a key meter at this property but ive never recived a bill in all the time ive been here i guess they think ive been paying for it on the key,
i kinda figgure if they catch up with me then ill pay what i owe in installments, ill only be paying for what ive used anyway.
but know i want to get a grow room on the go so my electric consumption is gonna rise quite a bit, im gonna be looking at 2x 1000kw bulbs and then fans ect.

do you think they are looking for or will start looking for the lost electric especially if it goes up buy say an extra 2500kw?
do you think i should change my supplyer and start paying or just let it ride and see what happens?

what is a electric key meter, from googleing it seems as a pre-paid cell phone but an electric meter. To me that just a retarded idea.

its basically a special key that you can take to a shop and pay as much as you need they put credit on the key that you take home stick the key in your meter and it gives you the equal amount of electric that you just paid for.
there usually found in rental premises, i guess they took over from the meters you can put cash in that were easy to fiddle so maybe not so reatrded

so they are more for the electric company and not the consumer. It seems like a pain to have to go put money on your meter, instead of just getting a bill and paying it.

1 wouldn't worry about the b1ll, that's th1er problem, 1f they turn up 1n, say, 12 months, then let then check your meter, 1 can't see how they could correctly b1ll you, unless they had a meter read1ng from the prev1ous tenant.

You may rec1eve a "averaged out" b1ll, but, 1f your burn1ng l1ghts, then good, you'll be gett1ng a less than "average" b1ll.

As for bu1ld1ng a grow room, get on w1th 1t,theyv'e no r1ght or need to know about what goes on 1n your home.

From what I have read, this is like a prepaided phone card but for electric. Once the prepaid runs out, the power shuts off. Which could be really bad for a grow.

in the UK we have to pay say £10, that will come with a £5 emergancy which if you use that itll come out of the next £10 top-up

id rather be paying with a key and topping up regulary than have a huge bill come at the end of each month, i imagine the electric usage would be abit harder to trace this way.

i dont know how the electric company's work but still when i rack my brain i cant figure how they can poss trace the missing power to my address.
im pretty sure i can go to any shop that provides an electric top up for the key and pay in cash over the counter, so there is no trace that ive actually paid anything and i wonder how many homes or flats pay cash on the key for there electric in my area.

i pretty much agree with everything that libby said, but yeh they would have a meter reading from the day we moved in so if it came to it i would prob have to pay for everything ive used, still no biggy there it would prob be in installments and only for what ive used anyway.

my 2 main concerns here is 1 they can trace the usage to my door
and 2 if the day came that i got busted i dont think i would worry to much for the amount (ill keep it kinda small 20) but they might try prosecute me for stealing electric.

i doubt there sitting on there 100 million pound yachts worrying about bad Karma.

Was there any kind of deal when you moved that the previous owner put X amount on the key and you are just using those dollars?

but i cant see how my addy can be traced to the missing power so to em
they've had plenty out of me and no doubt will get plenty more so for the time being ill take the free ticket thx (untill it bites me in the ass no doubt lol)

There's no such thing as a free lunch.

Something is jiggered where you're at and if you don't clear it, you're gonna get pinched between two objects that probably won't be moveable.

Best to call the power company and demand they figure this out so that you can get on with your life and your grow.

No... they most likely can't trace the power to your house but who cares? Stealing is stealing and if your meter is rigged somehow you're going to take the blame when it all comes to light.

Besides.... do you REALLY want to be thinking about that every time you get a spare second? It's gonna nag and nag and nag and nag and nag at you. It will also get worse as the months go by and you use more and more power without paying for it.

Why torture yourself! LOL No way you'd get me to put that kinda pressure on me every day. And add a grow into the mix of things to keep in mind. LOL
