Foxtails

Can someone explain foxtails to me or show me a thread where they are discussed? In my searches, I found a whole bunch of threads that are now years old where people seem to love the foxtail, pray for the foxtail and encourage it. More recent threads treat it as evil and look for the growroom screwup(s) that caused it.

So which is it, evil or blessing? Is anything affected other than looks? I had one do it once recently and I don't see what all the fuss is about. I thought it looked kindof cool.

foxtails are the cause of excess heat or too close to bulb....
also this happens if you de-leaf your plants a bunch while flowering over and over again.
my two cents

Bullshit man, foxtails are not evil or due to excess heat or de-leafing. Just look at DJ Short's strains, Foxtails or stacked calyxes are genetic traits and they are beautiful and exotic.

I think it's an environmental phenomenon.

I am 99% sure that I have repeatedly caused the plants (various strains) in my various gardens over the years to grow foxtails simply by repositioning them very late in bloom.

id been doing this strain for a while and then the last grow ,buds never got fat and foxtailed out ,yield was halfed

I blamed using superthrive all the way through and having the light too close

If the light is to close didnt the leafs indicate it? I have never heard that the light being due close effecting the yield, maybe the quality but the yield? please correct me if im wrong, I have mainly grown outdoors and am still learning indoor techniques....

I've grown a lot of DJ Short strains and never had foxtails.
Foxtails are Satan's jizm.

Even on the seedboutique's site, the images of True Blueberry, and Grape Krush both have stacked calyxes. If they zoomed out of the flo I'm sure you'd see stacked calyxes there too. F13 you'll see stacked calyxes. And if you've ever seen the new strain developed by DJ Short's son called Whitaker Blues, you'd also see stacked calyxes or foxtails.

I most certainly believe that foxtailing is due to a genetic predisposition. it looks pretty but it dries all funky and is sort of whispy. heres a bit of dried ssh that foxtailed real bad.

Foxtails are both nature and nurture. In other words, caused by genes and environment either alone or together. 'Haze' type plants almost always have a degree of foxtailing. Some people might call it 'airy' bud with no bag appeal, but older tokers know better ;) Excess N, late repots, low light from overcrowding, or as someone pointed out possibly too much B1 like superthrive might cause it. I wouldn't say evil at all. We have an exellent Island Sweet Skunk that foxtails like crazy, but you sure wouldn't turn it down.

Really? What gear of his you run? Any pics to show? Because even DJ crosses often exhibit foxtails. Also I have had both airy and dense foxtails.

I love the dense stacked calyxs.....

heat will cause it in some strains but there are strains that have natural tendencies to foxtail like these Kali Most. which never get more that 80 degrees in the light.

are you sure you didn't cut it too early?

it had tons of nanners , so it was not early, im running a batch of the same gens now, and the buds are getten fat and no foxtails

i dont know what caused the foxtails last time . I suspected superthrive . as for the lights?? i read some speculation on the lights being too close and foxtails here on IC .... I still think it was too much superthrive in bloom
