Make your own with peat...
5 parts Canadian Spaghnam Peat
3 parts perlite
2 parts wormcastings or mushroom compost or home made compost
Powdered dolomite lime @ 2 tablespoons per gallon or 1 cup per cubic foot of the soiless mix.

is this a good mix to support my plants all throughout their lives w/o any nutes?

I use ...
5 parts Canadian Spaghnum Peat
5 parts Perlite
Powered dolomite lime @ 2 tbs/gallon

Seems to work real well for me. In my setup it always seems to take about 5 days to dry out before the next watering. Sometimes I add wormcastings to the mix.

You'll have to add nutes either to your mix or with liquids at feeding. I do both. I add a little to the mix and supplement with liquids when they seem to need a boost.

edit... I thought I'd also say for the record that when you let the above mix sit for atleast a week the pH is 6.8

Isn't this whole Peat Moss harvesting thing environmentally destructive?...not trying to start flame issue here or anything.

To be honest I really don't know. I remember reading something on OG back in the day that explained how the peat you buy in most stores doesn't hurt the environment yada yada yada... I really can't remember though. I seem to have a slight case of memory loss! :biglaugh: :bongsmi:

so is that a soilless mix? hows that work out? which nutes do you use?

It is a soilless mix. I've been putting bloodmeal, bonemeal, and kelpmeal in the mix for my main nutes. Whenever they seem to want a boost I give them some Pure Blend Pro.

If all you want to do is use a liquid nute like PBP that'll work by itself too. Remember, once you mix the amendments (the meals) in your mix, if it's too hot you have to do an emergency transplant. :yoinks: If you are just using the liquids and over do it, you just flush with plain water.

That's why I only mix in the meals at 1 tsp/gallon of mix. Which is what most would call 33% strength. Most ppl on here that I read mix in the meals at 1 tbs/gallon of mix.
