some input please as to WHY these buds are doing that foxtail thing? will they eventually thicken up ?kuz,,,,once you mentioned too much N will cause this,,,which is not the case here. only fox farm tiger bloom for nutes. HHHHWWATdo we do about this !
lotatokin, looks like you have some weeks to go there... They will tighten up, it could be strain, or the environment causing this.... but they will pack on more for you... foxtails aren't a bad thing imo....
I have noticed genetics and nutrients have alot to do with foxtailing. I usually never see foxtails on indica dominant plants, it's usually sativa dominated or 50/50 hybrids that i see foxtailing. I also think nutrients (exactly what you feed them) plays a role in this, i have used alot of different nutrients on the same phenos and have produce different results. Some will grow tighter and some grow lighter and foxtail. It's generally not a bad thing though IMO, i actually like the foxtailing...makes for some unique looking buds. I love the stacked calyxes.
When we stopped using Fox Farm products...we stopped seeing those.
You may have luck with a mix of FF big bloom and the tiger bloom..I am not sure...but I think the TB is not a complete fert.
We use pureblend ferts now...have not seen a foxtail in a long time ......
lotatokin what are your canopy temps?Like Indy said its much more prevalent with more sat. type plants my grapefruit got a few but high flowering temps without co2 enrichment can make even a dense indica foxtail up top.High canopy temps, phenotype and lastly and leastly high N are the only three reasons I've ever heard for the little buggers.
It sounds like THE American has it pinned down. All three sound extremely reasonable to me.
One thing I am for sure of is that I get foxtailing in the summer, and rarely in other seasons. So most of my foxtailing is heat canopy temp issues.
In your case though, I'm thinkin it might be the nutrients. IMO if your only gonna use one product in FF's line it is a must that it is the Big Bloom. But really you need to use the Grow Big, Big Bloom, and Tiger Bloom (I love the addition of Cal/Mag & Budswell myself) at all different ratios throughout a plants life.
So maybe you should pick up Big Bloom to add to your nutrient schedule (if your not already starting flushing).
Don't forget, There may be more than one of the three factors at play.
I have to just reinforce what the other's have said.
Chief reason is usually high temps/humidity, coupled w/ a sativa dom background. What are you running, anyway?
you can easily tell by the leaves
not enough light
not getting enough water
possibly rootbound
outgrown its medium completly
might wanna look into a different strain
Check out the foxtails on these beautiful ladies.I'm reasonably sure that in this case the cause is genitical....Lol.
Oh,and heat can cause it to some extent,so I've read.
Peace
