Fox Farm Perlite

Not all perlite is created equal, thats for sure. And once you experience the chunky goodness of FF perlite no other brand will do.It was always expensive but man now they raised it again,33.50 a bag!!I thought 29.99 was a lot. When will the madness end??I'm strung out on the product though,I have a habit so I's gots to have it..Anyone ever run into a reasonable facsimile of FF perlite?I've never seen anything that even comes close.I dont like it when my perlite looks like it was manufactured by the Cali cartel if you know what I mean lol.I bought a small bag and didnt know whether to mix it in my soil or snort it lol.Just kidding of course I avoid poisons.

I have been searching for perlite in my area and all i can find is miracle grow. I bought some by mistake once and tried washing the chemicals off but still didnt trust it. I know its the wrong time of year but both my local nurserys are out.. On another point... i DID find like a local general store type place that sold worm castings.. who would have thought?

Check out the NPK of the worm castings Dan 1-0-0 is most common but you'll find different values for different stages,I just found this out recently.Who'd have thought WC would have a NPK lol?Does miracle grow perlite contain some kind of chems? It shouldnt thats for sure.I'll pay the damn 33.50 a big bag goes pretty far but it shouldnt be that way.And its not the store owners either, its fox farm and the shipping costs,it makes it ridiculous for them to make any money on it when suggested retail is 39.95 lol, what a bunch of dooodooo

yeah miracle grow perlite has some sort of ferts sprayed on them. I read once you can soak them in water to remove it but never trusted it. I found some untreated hoffmans last year but they are out of it now. Forget fox farms.. I will never see that stuff in this area. I was fortunate to find a great organic soil at a local nursery and its great stuff. I finished one complete crop with no defiecenies. I am trying to reuse it now.. and see how it does. I mix it 50/50 with new stuff and perlite.

I use the MG perlite. I don't have access to anything else...

It is an OK product.... fist you have to 'sift' through it with screen, basically losing 50% of the bag.... then wash it with water... then sift again....
It is a lot of work but how much chemicals can they possibly put into these things? In any case all it does is give a slight nitrogen boost, thats the main ingrediant. It is very cheap too, so even though I lose a lot in the 'purifying' process, I am still not paying $30 for FF perlite....

MG perlite is fine... unless your a die hard oranic kind of person :D

FF Perlite

Fox Farm is great because it comes in those huge bags and the "perlite corns" are about 10 times larger than those ghetto little miracrap grow perlite. .

I once made a desperate attempt at using the miracle grow perlite, because the grow shop was out. Man was I pissed, it burned the plants badly. I always soak my plants well during transplants and the shit got toxic anyway , not to mention the small perlite corns wash everywhere in soil or hydro or coco they suck..

I have though, found perlite that is as good or better than FF Perlite! I don't know if it's any cheaper as it comes in smaller bags, but it is wonderful. It is sold at Armstrong Nursery stores and the brand is E.B. Stone Organics. May be available online.

Remember to always wet the perlite before handling it, it always puffs in your face and the white dust is bad for the lungsters, plus the roots suffer less when they are transplanted into nice wet perlite.

Where I live, you can get either Miracle Grow or Shultz. I dont have a problem with either of them. Before I use them I put a couple dozen small holes in the bottom of the bag, put it in the sink, fill it with water and let it drain out. This gets rid of the dust.
