Forget taste its all about the smell

For me smell and not taste is the most important thing. I have been smoking for some years now and almost all the product I get these days have very little or no smell. It wasn’t always like this. What’s the deal, what gives the product that skunky or pine smell. Is it genetics or is it the curing process. For example I have some HPS grown Nirvana Ice, it has been curing for the last 2 months and it has hardly any smell to it. What’s the deal, please explain.

I stumbled upon some really great stuff about 6 months ago. The buds were almost fluorescent green and were so tight it was like breaking apart honey comb. But the smell was like pine and was so strong it lingered in the air for a good 5 minutes. I miss this type of smoke.

Try using Liqiud Karma and Big Bloom by Botanicare. Not only does it bring out the crystals makes your flowers stink. If you really want them to smell try bannana manna or cocoa cat. Those will do the job for sure....

^^Yup...I use LK and Banana Manna for my gals and they reek to holy hell as soon as they're dry (no cure at all). After 2 months of curing the smell is unbelievable and is easily smelled through ziplock bags. Odor control is a must for growing them though, especially if you've got any skunk in your genetics (Shark Shock makes my yard smell like I'm breeding skunks!). I believe Ice is a low odor strain as well, so that could be part of your problem.

how are you curing your smoke the mason jar method ??? or just hang dry if mason jars did you open the jars each day 15-20 min to let the air exchange i really couldnt tell ya why your smoke turned out like it has. have some purple shaq in the ole pocket now and it reeks

lk and other addatives only help the plant reach its genetic potential...its all about the genetics my friend. Ice is indeed a low odor strain. Curing plays a large roll as well, but its roll is in intensifying/clarifying the taste/aroma that is genetically already there.

I've also heard good things about "sweet" from botanicare. Just got a bottle for free yesterday so we'll see how it goes.

Thanks guys I had no idea that certian ferts will bring out the smell. Thanks alot : )

It was hung for about 5 days until the stems snapped. It was cured in mason jars. The jars were opened every day for about a month.

IMO they may have been just a touch overdry when put in the jars...also did you possibly flush them a little hard? Other guesses are a bad pheno selection you may have gotten an extreme NL pheno, or too little nutes. My phenos of ICE (and there were a few) were all lower odor but certainly not low odor like an NL. When cut they are quite intense actually. But the strain is by no means stable so there are many many possibilities within it.

What about "sweet" by botanicare? Or "Carboload" by Advanced Nutes?
