Hoooooow fucking lucky are you.

I've always wanted to live there, hate the city.

Did you grow up in Alaska or move there for a job?

What type of industry are you in and does it ever get boring there?

Never been there, certainly must be beautiful beyond belief, but I feel comfortable saying you gonna have to dig the cold if you want to live there.

i know a few here work(ed) the fishing boats. I did a search for other stuff and found a bunch of threads on it.

I know a bunch of people still in Alaska. Most of the socially healthy ones want out or are out. The rest are extended family who spend their free time chasing black bears around with guns, praying to Jesus and defending Sarah Palin.

I lived there for over 5 years. What exactly draws you to it bro? The natural beauty is absolutely incredible, but for myself, the breathtaking views run their course amidst below zero temperatures, constant dark skies, and strangely expensive real estate considering its' remoteness.

lol, no shit, just now I checked the Facebook wall of my buddy in Fairbanks.

"Woo-hoo, supposed to hit -30 tomorrow!"

lol. That shits all you bro...

Agreed lol. Although I'm one of those weird people who got tired of California climate fast and do like the cold. (from east coast originally)

It's def. an extreme environment and not for everyone. I've just grown tired of city life and have always liked that sort of location. Granted I've never lived/been there but I'm positive I could enjoy it for years before I grew tired of it

Headiez,

You should give the member called Nokuy a pm, he is in love with Alaska, at least he used to be, always talking about moving up there, buying some land, etc. I'm surprised he hasn't jumped into this thread by now.

dam headiez, you just started this thread today, not all or even most of the members check in every day to see what new thread you started.

I have spoken with a guy on here that lives in alaska. He says you can legally have up to 20 plants, and that is within your rights to privacy. They do have a medical program, but the plant count is less than 20, but I think you can have up to 2.5 ozs.

I wouldn't mind visiting, but I don't think I could live there.

I spent a couple of years in Fairbanks. It is different, the summers are awesome as it stays light up to 24 hrs a day. But the winters are nothing short of brutal, -50 for a low with-30 for the high. get light about 10 AM and gets dark at 2 PM get real old real fast. but it was great for a couple years. Best fishing ever and the weed in Fairbanks was Dank even back in the eighties. but then it was 75 an eighth too.

Dude, if you're sick of the city, you should check out some of the states above Cali, both Oregon and Washington have some real beautiful country that is still close to civilization and also a hella lot more hospitable weather-wise. Ever been to Portland?

gods country...if youve ever heard the term and wondered exactly what that meant...go to ak...and im not talking about the definition, im talking about standing knee deep in tangle lake or fishing greyling in the clearwater river, looking up and realizing with absolute certainty there is not a more beautiful feeling in the world then existing, living, breathing alaska.
...as for politics, well, its like living in disneyland in that while the majority of alaskans live there to avoid 'the real world' it is owned, down to the fish guts, by the oil companies. its a godamn shame, but the benefits far outweigh the the detriment in living in a land owned by the cocksucking republican party.
...it is a place for some people, and not for others...there is no in between.
...people have been known to transfer up w the military, or come on vacation and just, simply, never leave.
...in winter in the interior where im from, when its cold, im talking alaska cold, you can hear a footstep crunch in the snow for miles...watching the northern lights will leave you stupified...nothing like television...i have seen lights of vatious colors race across and fill the ENTIRE sky in seconds, at speeds no human can even fathom going....
...i did some mapping for the usgs, got dropped off via helicopter on ridges no humans had ever stepped foot on in the history of the world...been bluff charged by grizzlies twice in my life and treed another time by a black sow...if you have never faced down a grizz in the wild w absolutely no hope other then the bear is not hungry you have not lived...i could go on and on and on....but im getting homesick
...the closest you will ever get to understanding ak w out being there? turn off discovery channel and lose yourself in a jack london book...i swear my ears get cold and i can smell snow when i read his stories...
