Foolproof Early Feminized Seeds for Maine?

T

THCV

Hi everyone-

I am planning to send some seeds to a friend who hasn't grown before. She'll plant them outside in Maine and tend to them, but I want it to be easy as possible, since she is pretty clueless. (This is, alas, planning for NEXT year.) I can't risk males so I need female seeds, and I am looking for something that will grow well outdoors, is low-to-no maintenance, and can be cut early September (since that is when I will visit) but still be potent. I gotta stress that point: harvest will be the first week in Sept at the latest.

Currently, I am thinking these might be the best:

Easy Sativa or Maroc - Female Seeds
Flo - Dutch Passion

Can anyone recommend an early, easy, feminized seed? Thanks!

thanks, fast pine. unfort, cloning is out of the question. she just isn't up for that level of "tech". she basically will stick the seeds in the ground. hence the need for female seeds. i wonder why THS doesn't make fem seeds when everyone else big does? Medo Madness certainly looks fast, too bad it ain't fem.

i guess i need the fastest female seeds. what are they??

Dude. Female seeds= hermaphrodite problems. Get a fast strain and send her the damn clones in the mail if you have to. A retarded monkey could sex a plant and take a cut with the correct instructions. I would tell her to use containers so she can move them all under a tarp if a storm hits.

Thanks for your recommendation. FWIW, I found that Dutch Passion sells a strain called Khola, available as a feminized seed, that is supposed to be ready 2nd week in September. Seems to be the earliest feminized seed available.

gotta say ...

Khola looks good ..just get her to start them like a month before the season indoors then even if they take 2 weeks to germ ,, they should be ready sept on the dot ....

or

white rhino feminised (GH)

or
maybe any "early" strain ....you can find feminised

I think your best bet is getting an early start and growing then a little indoors before they go out at normal planting time ... that way they'll get the best of the sun and finish slightly earlier

and by INDOORS I mean on a windowsill in pots.... lol

Peace

carharttkidd, while i am obviously wary of fem seeds, there seem to be a lot of successful grows on here from fem'd seeds, Female Seeds brand in particular (non X-Line), that people have harvested without any male flowers appearing.

The simplicity of female seeds is required here because I would be more worried about her NOT pulling the males and getting a fully seeded harvest (if i used normal seeds). You have to admit, that is much worse? Anyway, I appreciate your concern.

This is really just an experiment with my friend. Look at my sig if you want to see where i get my true grow on.

Why not just send her rooted clones? All she'll have to do is stick em in pots and water. :) that way you won't have with the possibility of a seeded crop due to hermies, although it is always a possibility. I almost never experience hermaphroditism outdoors. Go figure...how about some Early Pearl from Sensi?

thanks delta-9 and glock. the clones create 2 problems:

1. I am much more nervous about shipping clones than seeds--is that unreasonable?

2. all my moms are indoor plants i have selected without any regard to the date they are finished outdoors. I could send her a SourDxOGKush clone, but when the hell is that done outside? I have no idea. And i don't really want to mom-out some early pearl etc, because in my indoor setup i'll go with the best strains, not the "early but lower quality" strains, know what i mean?

maybe some of my strains just happen to finish early, but since this is so aggresively early, i kinda doubt it. no, fem seeds still make the most sense IMO. Great to hear about low herm'ing outdoors, glock.

as far as early strains in general, mendo madness is still the earliest i have found from a reliable bank (thanks fast pine), and khola is the earliest fem.

any mainers on here with strain recommendations?

Your welcome THCV

we used to get some purple power down from maine and it seems like it grows better up there than it does in the south. female seeds makes purple power and i believe its one of their cheapest strains. its quick maturing and a really easy plant to tend to.

thanks, H&L, that's some solid info. when did you harvest the purple power?

could be a good choice too because my friend will like how pretty the purple is. :yummy:

New Grower

Hi All!
by my experiences the "early" strains usually begins the flowering very late.. for example Flo, Early Queen or Haley's Comet..

I can recommend the Critical Mass from Mr. Nice if ya want something early (ready in mid September). I think Female Seeds Easy Sativa is worth a try!

Peace!

Get sativas, pretty easy to grow outdoors oppose to the more indica dominant plants.
Just my 2 cents.

Thanks everyone for your help. Here's my plan:

I have settled on Female Seeds Easy Sativa and Maroc, and DP Khola. These are the earliest feminized seeds on the market from reputable seed banks. They all should be done by mid sept, and can probably be harvested early without too much loss of potency (ie labor day).

I will take Delta-9's advice and make sure that she plants the seeds indoors on a window sill for a 3 weeks until they are robust small plants, and then transplant them outside into the ground as soon as the Maine frost is over, which should be end of May, or June 1 at the latest.

Female Seeds says that these strains need 8 weeks veg minimum, and that they begin flowering in July. So the timing isn't perfect, but the plants can't go outside any earlier; might be just right though.

I'll order the seeds next winter for cooler transit. Since the female seed biz seems to be exploding, there might be new fem early strains (ie Mendo Madness) by then, so I'll update when i actually order. This is a fun challenge! I am also going to see if she can get a prescription, since Maine supports Medical MJ, and then she can legally have 6 vegging, 3 flowering, so i would have her plant 2 of each strain and pull the weaker plant of each strain once they begin flowering. Legit, speedy, easy. I love it! :woohoo:
