Yes, but....

Yes, but....

First- it REALLY smells! I mean, dry some fruit first, to see how smelly it can be! It's a real bust! If you MUST dehydrate, do it in the "wee hours". Second- it gives an inferior product. Part of curing is to allow certain compounds to break down. All the sugars and chlorophyll are in there to throw off the taste and make it harsh to smoke. But if you're desperate, it's smokable. - Granny :joint:

I have had herb that was chopped in evening and put in dehydrator for 12 hours, in the morning we smoked it and it was fine.

Desperation!

Desperation!

When I was out of medicine and waiting patiently for my harvest to cure last year I tried the food dehydrator method on one plant. The results were OK but I would never suggest to cure your entire crop, only for emergencies!

It never hurts to snag a bud or two if you are jones-in it. Take some lower buds and save the big ones for a proper cure after the reach maturity. Stormcrow and MRainey are right and besides its taken months to get to near finished---be patient and be rewarded.

I've used one on several grows just outta sheer impatience....

The smoke was always very harsh, buds were either damp or dry as dust....

So it serves a purpose - but certainly not for drying an entire grow....

In a bind it will work, but set the dehydrator on the lowest setting. It will take about 24hr, but the buds will be damaged less.

the longer you dry and cure the better the high and the better the taste.. will it smoke ..yes..will it get you high..yes ..but nothing compaired to a slow dry and cure! its going to be harsher and have more green/chlorophyl in the nugs as well.

I find I can fit a larger ammount if I use my dryer. If I can't fit it all in my home unit the industrial units at the laundry mat hold about 4 pounds. takes a handfull of quarters but I can't wait a week for shit to dry, i got to smoke every last bit of it in a huge joint the day after harvest. I used to roll cherry blunts, but now I use dryer sheets in the dryer.

The smoke will be a lot harsher than conventional drying.
If you must, use all racks, but just fill the top tray, keeping the herb as high off the heating element as possible. Keep all vents wide open.

pico, just how high are you?!? :biglaugh:

IMO the weight of the moisture doesnt change, so however you dry the Nugs' there gonna weigh what there gonna weigh when there dry, as far as potency, IMHO, and I'm no chemist, but it stands to reason, the thc and the work of the trichs are gonna be disturbed under excelerated drying, and I also think the evaporation also plays a part in the damage to the thc and the trich's, jst my opinion, A little at a time would'nt hurt, and it takes the edge off of the impatience. Good luck dude. Boon dude age

theres a thread around here somewhere saying it can be done with success heres a quote from cyburnt, "Depending on the load, 8-10 hrs only gets it about 3/4 dry. They will seem very dry on the outside yet the stems inside are still moist. This is perfect for finishing in the jars. Fill them about 7/8 full and seal them for a couple of daze initially. When you open them you will get a better idea if they are right for curing. You want them dry to the touch but not crumbly. You'll get a feel for it after a while. At this point if they are still a little soft you can give them a little more time in the machine or just lay them out to dry a little more. You are past the point of mold danger. It is crucial that from here they live in the curing jar. I tend to burp them a lot in the begining just to get them to the right moisture level. After a few daze I cut back to burping ever other day and then to every week or so. I don't generally touch anything that hasn't been cured at least a month. After 2 months it can be bagged. Be sure to get a goot even heating unit that goes below 100 Fahrenheit.

I met a dude from Guam who told me told me back on the island they would wrap undried smaller buds in paper towel, then wrap that in one layer of aluminum foil and seal the edges. He would stuff that in his clothes drier vent tube for around an hour plus.

Well I had to try it.

And so far for me thats the best quick dry method I have seen. The flavor was not butchered and the high was there.

Of course I would only do this for quick sampling, but it was not bad results considering how lame the method sounds.
