since i'm using Canna a&b schedule i notice that they recommend using the very expensive Boost product during flush. i did not use the boost in flush last run nor i have ever flushed with anything but ph'ed water.

does anybody here use Boost during flush? i read somewhere that it adds flavor? musta been blazed cause i can't find it now...

anyways... has anyone used molasses instead of Boost in coco during flush?

i'm thinking since i toss the used coco, why not?

anyone?

You dont need to use that or anything when your flushing. I dont want my buds tasting like Molasses or anything other then the cannabinoids of that strain. Flush with tap water. IMO its just a waste of time and money..

i hear you.

i guess i'm looking to improve flavor - something like what i had with this strain in org soil. damn that tasted fine!!

i won't give up the coco cause it is so easy, but i gotta get the flavor back somehow.

i wonder how Earth Juice works in coco? hmmm.....

If you're using RO water, I don't think its too bad of idea to use a sweetener, just dont overdue it. Plenty of good weed has been grown with tap at higher ppm of who knows what in it.
Im not sure that it would improve flavor, but the plant will stay healthier with some cal/mag. It might not help, but I don't think it would hurt much in moderation.

You're not really making any sense. Either you think flushing with something will improve things or you don't. What does coco have to do with it? Just trying to understand here is all

that's what i'm trying to find out. i have only used water and would like to know what kind of luck others have had using sweet in the flush. does it add flavor? if so what kind?

i am growing in coco and would like to get back the taste that i had from growing in organic soil. (i used to grow in organic soil)

good god i can't be the only one here who used to grow in dirt... maybe i'm doing something wrong... the flavor in coco is great, the flavor in soil is noticeably better. i am surely not the only one who notices this?

the cannaboost isnt a flushing product, it's a additive for the whole flowering phase. but when you flush you want to flush. the cannaboost does have some effect on the taste, but good genetics will not need it for the taste. but it also helps to decrease flowering time a bit and acts as a general health tonic for the medium.

for flushing you can use any flushing product, although i personally use tap water. i might add some cannazym when i do the great big flush 5 days before harvest, but then i refill the tank with plain phed water to run the last days. the zym seems to help getting the slabs cleaned a bit faster.

I would think the complex sugars in the molasses would make the smoke be as harsh as smoking corn silk. Sugar will not make the bud taste sweet in the pipe.

Just sayin'...

They don't. I use different sugars all the time, in my soil, coco and perlite grows.

I want to say this, I think that everyone seems to have a different goal, and if a product doesn't meet the expected goal then it's labelled as 'worthless.' For me, simple sugars like molasses are hardly worthless, they're worth their weight. Why is that? Because, they meet my needs and help me meet my GOALS.

My goals are very simple--to bring out the very best in a girl. It's not to 'sweeten' the buds, it's not to make them stickier, or anything like that. It's simply to see what she has to offer and bring out the best of what she has to offer. Molasses, used during the grow and included in the last waterings (which makes them feedings technically, I suppose) all the way through to the end, helps me get that kind of performance out of my ladies.

So do malted barley extract (thin it down!), panela/panocha, palm sugar, and date sugar.

There aren't many complex carbohydrates in a simple sugar like molasses. It's usually known as a simple sugar.

So, with specific regard to coir (and I see and understand why there needs be some specificity here) molasses is a good choice because it will help prevent depletion of Ca and Mg reserves. It also provides some significant S, which may be linked to terpenes and don't terpenes = scent and flavor?

can't comment on using molasses for flushing as i never tried it. always found water does a great job getting the water soluble nutrients out of the medium so the plants have a few days of hunger before the chop. but you are not the first to tell me the molasses works well for the end phase. how would you dose the molasses for final days of watering? might have to give it a go at some point.

I would think that molasses would cause harshness in the finished product if you flushed with it, because of the magnesium in it. I use molasses up until about 10 days before harvest, straight RO water from that point on.

Very good info above!
I've been using Sucanat (dried sugar cane juice -- couple of tbsp in qt warm water then into 50 gal rez) on the last couple of runs based on something that Ed R. posted in one of these long threads a year or so ago. Its keeping the micro herd fed and also its not leaving the rez's so slimed out on the bottom. Note: this is with DG & Koolbloom. Got a good clean flavor

Your mileage may indeed vary as it really is your mileage. :tiphat:

Peace

Like I said, I like to use sugars all the way through the grow. I also like to use the "less is more" philosophy, so at the end I'm going as light as 1T/5gals clean water (no Ca, no Mg other than what the molasses or MBE provides). I've done this with both molasses and malted barley extract, leftover product from my husband's homebrew kits that he wasn't going to use any more.

I should also note that, with specific regard to indoor growing, I cannot leave any container with sugars in it for long or it begins to turn into beer. Or at least, it really smells like beer to me. I assume that some of that brewing yeast is now living in the environment where brewing took place.

I use molasses throught the grow but not during flush last 2 weeks. IMO it's best to get everything out thats lingering in the medium including molasses.
