flushing - definition?

T

tyler

ive read many threads where people are saying to flush the plants within the last 2 weeks of flowering. how much water should i use? ive read 3 times the volume of the container they were grown in..sounds kinds rediculous considering a container is ˇ11 liters and the plants need a maximum of 5-6 liters of water per week (i water 1-2 times a week, when the soil is dry and the leaves are starting to droop a lil bit). so 33 liters per plant over two weeks? seems like overkill.

anyway, can someone give me a straight answer on how to flush plants grown in soil with a variety of Fox Farm nutrients?

Like going to the bathroom, you take a leak (leach) before you FLUSH.

That is ph'd water or water with 1/4 strength nutes for the last 10-14 days (leach) THEN you FLUSH several days before harvest with 2- 3 times the container volume.

Those that fertilize heavily will flush every couple of weeks just to get rid of salt(s) build up.

Happy Growing andPeace

I do like Dankerz and have for years, flushing is for hydro grows and crappy chemical fert users, soil grows with good ferts need no flush.Just let the plant uptake the remaining nutes by giving plain water the last couple weeks

its kinda self explanitory...like flushing an engine out, think of it like rinsing out, cleansing.

when ppl use 3 times water to soil thats because the plant has a problem if you use chem ferts in soil water with plain PH'd water last 3wks. if you use organic or organic based ferts water plain PH'd water 10-14 days just give them a normal watering.

i stop my liquide organic ferts 14 days before chop i stop powdered guanos 5 days before chop. i water plain PH'd @ 6.5 water untill drainage occures

what i did last time was do like most people say, i completely stop feeding fertilizers (general hydro 3 part) at least 2 weeks before i want to chop them. i grow in soil and dont heavily fertilize.

i simply give the 5 gallon pots 5 gallons of water, (thats how much i normally give) but i water about twice as much. as soon as the top of the soil is dry. hope that helps :rasta:

You know... I've always wondered.. cuz i still havnt been able to start my own grow.. Workin on my stealth box.. But do you guys use just normal tap water? Distilled? Tap water that sits out to let the chlorine/floride dissipate? Even for just normal watering

Soiless mediums have a high CEC. Overtime the soiless medium will accumulate salts due to the CEC becuase when you feed the plant will not take up the exact ppm you feed it. There will always be a little left over. This builds up over successive feedings.
Flushing with water dilutes the build up and the gravity of the water flush pulls the attached nutes off the medium and out the drainage holes.

Distilled water is a better solvent than tap BUT will cause a much larger drop in pH which is oftentimes too great a drop in too short a time for the plant to handle, thus a low ppm water flush is prefered to a 0 ppm distilled flush.
