flowering too soon in the tropics

I'm experienced with many types of indoor grows but this is
my first outdoor and need help. Seeds planted on Feb 7th in 2 gallon pots in the bright hot tropics have been flowering for about 2 weeks. Everything I saw in seed catalogs re outdoors talked about autumn reaping.
Q: why did they go into flowering so soon and its just spring ?
Q 2: If I just reap the buds and leave the plant to grow will
it revert to veg state ? How soon ?
(I need to get some cuttings off them )

Thanks lots

ummmmm

well your in the tropics, right?
how many hours of sunlight are you getting - thats the "problem" you're having.
your plants are thinking its 12/12 time to bloom...

hope this helps:

the only other thing i can guess is you are growing something thats indica dominant... its gonna flip and bloom no matter
the sativa dominant stuff will keep growing during longer periods of daylight whereas the imdi stuff will flower
that what seems to happen for me here on Maui
good luck

According to that sunlight calculator we're getting about 13 to 14 hrs all year.
Not a big variation and certainly nothing even near the 18 that we veg with under artificial light. Plus the plants are about 15 ft away from a dusk to dawn 400W parking lot sodium bulb.
What I really want to know is - if I reap just the flowers and leave the plant , will it regenerate/reveg ? I want to get cuttings not a second crop.

Thanks

Oldog I can tell even with no pictures that you must have planted an indica or an indica cross, either of which I have found to flower way too early, when the plants are just a couple of inches tall.

I am just 6 degrees north of the Equator in the tropics, and I had this same early flowering problem with just about every indica cross I tried to cultivate. Tiny buds on a stick ha ha.

Switch over to growing pure sativas and there will be no further early flowering problems with your crop. World of Seeds has a superb selection of landrace sativas, and you can't go wrong with names like Malawi Gold and Mama Thai, to list but a couple.

Re: Indica / cross - yes well thats what we all grow indoors because of the height problem with the sativa - never thought there would be a problem with early blooming with the indica outdoors. I'll try some sativa after this lot but dont know how big they'll get before reaping time. I've seen some photos of ones that look like trees. I'm in a city so I cant get too tall. Also maybe I'll 18 hour the cuttings from the current one for a couple of months before putting them outside, although I didnt want to go back to the chore of grow rooms and lights etc.

Still hoping for info on whether the current ones will reveg after reaping.
Thanks to all.

That night light can / will prolly bite your ass too .
There are lots of posts around canna forums from folks with patio lights / security lights near their plants getting herms .

Try 75 % Haze hybrids . They will grow as they flower . Plus they take longer to trigger flower at 13 hours light .

And check out Donald Mallard from Wizard`s of Oz `s grow logs he`s at a similar lat .

Thanks for sharin
