Buds start showing nice little hairy knuckles at 14 days after switch but u should get preflowers earlier. Like calcioerba & the Dr. say depends on the strain. Later Bm357
It seems that we are getting a lot of newbies around here these days. Great, welcome one and all, but most of these questions can be found with a little searching. And some seem to be directed at getting peeeps with different opinions to argue.
This has been discussed at length by lots of people very recently. And has caused several opinions to be aired. Also there is some disagreement about what flowering is.
Once a plant has become sexually mature, (next question will be how do you know if your plant is sexually mature), you can switch the lighting to 12/12 ish and your plant will flower. Either male or female. Switching your lighting does not mean that your plant is in flower just that you swithched your lighting times. Once a plant has shown sex, it is flowering. However the flowering can be reversed by extending lighting times again. If your plant is mature, it will begin to flower once it realises that the light times are the same as the dark ones, however it will take a while to grow the first flowers letting you know which sex it is.
If your plant is not mature, the speed at which it will become mature will be decreased by less light. Switching lighting times on small underdeveloped plants will have varying effects depeding on the strain. Strain specific questions should be directed to the breeder.
But Griff's question was real specific: How long after switching to 12/12 should flowers begin to show.
As a good noob should, Griff followed our earlier advice about not flipping them too early. The general consensus from an earlier thread was to do it around June 1st. My memory of this is that the seeds in question germed in early April.
There will be strain-specific differences, of course, but most strains should about be in line with what we've discussed here.
And you are right, the answers to questions like this are pretty easy to locate. But you know when you are just starting out, a little live feedback can be very reassuring.
Hi ledhed,
Sorry Griff if I appeared to be coming down on you, that wasn't my intention.
I had no knowledge of the earlier thread, and without any info on whether we were talking sativa/indica, or the age of the plant, I thought it was a general question, which is why I answered in a general way.
Nice thorough explanation guys..I am sure everyone still asks questions here and then.. I do a lot of reading and lurking so I dont really ask questions no more.. but since my comp is filled with a lot of shit to make it slower it sucks now..
I think it really is a question of style. Some people hate asking questions. I am one of those. I spent about 10,000 hours doing research on OG without ever even registering. The knowledge IS there, if you look for it.
But the people who would rather post a question - I don't think they do it because it's easier, and it sure ain't quicker. I think they just prefer the person to person interaction. Not my cup of tea, but you should do what works for you.
And face it, ALL of us want some of that interaction and community, or we wouldn't be posting here at all.
It's kind of like the old American TV show Cheers: Sometimes you want to go where everybody knows your fake name.
