Flowering a cutting?

Hey guys, before I transplant I would like to know of course if my baby is a boy or a girl. I realize I could just take a cutting and do this. Could one of you experts out there make any suggestions...possibly give me a step by step? Also how long would it be before I saw any signs of sex from a small cutting? The actual plant needs very badly to be transplanted and is over a foot tall if I untied it. Thanks!

Im assuming the plant is 1 foot and in the veg stage, untopped? Mabey a little mroe info.

Find a growth tip, mabey the main one (if it has a thin stem) and cut the plant (45 degrees). Clone it ( Do a search, Im pretty sure you already know how to clone). When it has roots plant it, and let it veg for a few days. Then throw it into 12/12 and depending on strain you should know in under a month.

Hey, thanks. Yes I knew that much ; ) I was wondering if there was a simpler way. Is it possible to flower a cutting? What is you alls take on taking a cutting from a soil plant and placing it into a aeroponic cloner? Can I flower it before it grows roots? At least see some signs of sex? I just don't have time to be messing with clones, but if need be, then I suppose I'd have another plant it it is a female haha! Yes, it's 18/6 right now.

My first hydro grow which yielded 12 oz...(initially 11, but I wen't and cut off more afterI got lazy ; ) ) 2 plants.

Alright guys-

There is a very is way to determine sex of plants. Veg said plant until it is big enough to take a cutting or two. All you have to do is take the cut off the plant in stick it in a cup with water. Put it in your flowering chamber and "voila" ! Withing 14 days max you'll be able to tell sex. The clones do NOT need to be rooted to accomplish this. Like I said, just take cutting, place in cup with water, and put in flowering room. This process shaves a couple weeks off because you do not have to wait for roots to show, you just have to keep track of which clone came of which mama so you know which males to toss. Hope thise helps some people :joint:

I've seen sex 8 days after the first root that popped through.
Threw the cutting into flowering as soon as the first root showed, only produced a few hairs, but hey that's enough to know!

This is what I was asking. Good. I just mentioned the aeropnic deal because I wasn't sure a cup of still water would work. Can anyone confirm this? (not saying you are wrong). Thanks.

i can confirm this... plain tapwater works fine... cup + styrofoam with a hole in it for the cutting.... i saw sex in 7 days on this cutting (male)... by day 9 all the males showed... the 2 females... one showed on day 10... the other not until day 17... weird thing is, all 5 of the clones also rooted under 12/12... the first sign of roots was day 6 (the last picture:

That's interesting. I didn't realize you could do that. I mean I rooted clones under 12/12 and never really thought of it that way by seeing what sex your plant is. I might try this next time. I can take cuttings a the 4 week period instead of the 8. This will save me time. Thanks.

Will the clones continue to grow and stretch and yield something decent with this method? Or should you just throw em out?

i want too know too????

I haven't ever grown them out. I dont see why you couldn't, they just wouldn't yield that much because of how small they are. I only use this method to determine sex, then throw out the cuttings. It really does save a shit load of time, i was stoked once I found out this method :joint:

i was wondering if someone was to do a outdoor grow and sex the plants early in the veg stage so there will only have to use ferts on females, and dont waste time on males. this would be a big help. cause its a big pane in de ass when a realy big nice tree shows that it is male and you have too pul it.............

So i was wondering if you could plant the female cuttings back out doors.

One of 2 things should happen either

1 the plants will revert back to veg and grow again or she may continue to to bud

or

2 she may even be a hermi from too much stress

now i dont want to be wasting time on a hermi

Has any one ever tried this ??????

Allso do you guys know if a very small cutting (1.5in) will show sex in a week or two???
or do i have too cut bigger??

forgive me if these are simple qusetions i dont have the pratical experience with this type of things.

I have cloned while flowering. it took a little longer. I cut a bud off put it in water with a small amount of fertilizer the bud grew even doubled in size but never got roots (light ) this bud was crap. no THC.
