Flower Stage... begginers question

M

mcrob44

Hey everybody

I am currently on my second grow. my frist was a Nirvana papaya under 430w. now i'm growing Jack Herer and Belladonna under the same light.

I was wondering when i start to count my weeks of flower? is it right from the time i switched it to 12/12 or is it once the plants have shown their sexes?

thanks lot guys...

I start the count when I can see the sex of the plant. If you flower a plant at three weeks old, it is going to be a couple weeks anyways before it shows sex. A fully mature plant may show in 72 hrs....

yup, i start counting once the last one has shown its sex...although i'm doing clones now so its when they show their hairs......but dont go by the time stated thats a rough estimate....the plants will show you when their ready...cheers NG

3 out of 4 of my seedplants when I grow seedplants will show sex around 4 weeks of veg,for this reason I start counting the day I switch to 12/12.I dont want to confuse you bro, just remember flowering time is a bigtime approximation anyway, just there to give you a basic idea.

i count from the day i flip, but i use clones. Bman is right, flowering time is a big approximation... it can range from 20+ days either way easily.

i always count from the day i switch to 12/12

im only on my 3rd grow... so take what i say with a grain of salt tho

but either way like people said... flowering times given by breeders are approximations... the plants will tell u when they are ready to be chopped (check trichome color with a microscope)

yeah fella's..how's it goin...
don't wanna steal your thread mcrob44, but my question may be of interest to you as well.

I'm in my 2nd grow, from clone this time from my 1st grow. 5 Celtic Stone this time.
When turnin em to 12/12, do clones generally start to bud quicker compared to those grown from seed?
I've just turned mine yesterday after 5 weeks veg.

Cheers

the question is as old as indoor growing. i count from when i flip to 12/12. it just makes it easier on my reefer soaked, tiny little brain to keep track. logically i would think that the count should start for each individual plant as they start to show flowers. that ain't happenen. :) so in reality, instead of cutting a plant at 60 days of flower, i'm probably really doing it at 53 to 58 days.

most of my genetics are supposedly mature in approx 60 days give or take 10. i start checking trics around 50 days and pick them as i please. some i pick early, some i pick late. viva la difference!

blacksaint, just my 2 cents but it really depends on a lot of factors. if the clones are of a genetic that dosn't typically show flowers for a week then no, i don't believe they would flower sooner then a genetic grown from seed that typically shows flowers in 72 hours. all things being equal, i would think the clones would flower faster because they are much more mature and are already showing their sex.
