Floro training....

Im trying something a little different....

Since many veg under floros I thought you may find this interesting....

I use 4 ft shop lights....

Which work great until the plants outgrow them....

This is where training can extend your floro veg time allowing you to bring larger plants to the hid.....

Im using an oval one gallon water container from walmart....

The stem is on the extreme left of the picture....

This plant upright would be too large to be happy under floros.... but with training its growing well....

The pic demonstrates one important phase of training....

The larger branches have been tied down.... but there are several smaller branches from the underside of the stem which have migrated to the top side and Im encouraging growth from them.....

These will cover the center of the plant.....

This phase is sort of like a screenless scrog but My intention is to have 10 -or 12 branches well above the screen.... but continue training by pulling the tallest down to allow apical dominance in the shorter less developed branches...

The next container is about 3 gallons....

I have 3 LUI plants that Im dinking with.....

Upright the plant in the pic would be about 12 inches tall...

As it is its about 2 inches tall..... the floros are quite sufficient for probably 2 or 3 more weeks.....

It's called Low Stress Training or LST. And yes it works great if you're growing in a small space without lots of headroom. If you do it right you'll end up with nice short bushy plants that even have nice lower buds. This is some Cali-O that I LSTed. Good Luck Dogg!!!

This is a modification to lst....

My entire main stem is about 1 inch from the soil....

Ive not seen lst done in this fashion....

I also topped the plant which is clearly against the 'rules' of lst.....

And its bird not dogg...... lol......

The main goal will be to see how long I can maintain the plant under floros until the plant tells me it needs the HPS.....

I too tried to keep my main stem close to the soil. I only have about 2 and a half feet of actual grow space minus the heighth of the container and the max height my 400watt hps in cool tube with hood. I wonder if I top them...huuuummmmm!!!!! How low can I go and get some nice fat tops.

Hey thats interesting...

Great minds think alike or some such....

One thing I see is different is your branches start about middleish of your container....

I actually pull and tie the main stem to what would be in your pic the right side of the container.....

but your canopy ended up real nice....

Im trying to use the entire footprint of the container....

I have branches within 2 inches from the contaier end(where the stem goes into the soil)....

Very similar concept though no doubt.....

My main disadvantage might be how efficiently the roots can use the far side of the container since the rootball is on the extreme other end....
