Florida Outdoor Q's

Good morning, ICMAG!

I must first say that my first love is hydroponics, but I've recently lost my space for growing, and I am going to start out in the backyard. I have a decent place picked out that gets pretty much constant sunlight during the day, perfect for growing..I already have a soil mix in mind of worm castings, coir, and perlite..

2 questions tho:

What is the best time to start outdoors in Fl?
How do you guys control outdoor pests?

Some experimental clones i grew in this spot were covered in tiny bugs. The bud didn't really seem to suffer though- thanks in advance for the advice, outdoor gurus!

Hi!!

Start now,and dont worry about bugs if you can get your
plant to grow fast!!!Take my advice get water soliable Miracle gro
ferts and go easy at first.Start at half strenght every 4 days, then as
you get to a month in flower DOUBLE STRENGHT just ounce or twice!!
Let it grow without ferts for the next month and a half flushing well....

Your plant should outgrow any probs good luck, your soil is good but make
it fluffy with peatmoss, the faster your roots grow the faster the plant will...
PEACE!

Great info, thanks a lot guys! I don't have any swampy areas in my backyard, but irrigation is not problem. A simple irrigation system on a timer takes care of the times recently here in Fl where it's dry as f*ck.. OK, so I'll start now. I plan to start some femmed masterkush in rapid rooter plugs under fluoros and trasplant into containers (for easy movement, if need be - like in the event of a hurricane) and then outside into the spot. I also suppose as long as there is some buggage to eat, I could go buy some ladybugs and introduce them into the garden as well...

Are semi-shady spots OK? A better spot for subterfuge recieves less direct light during the day, but is cooler. It's awful hot here this time of year.. That begs another question - is it better to transplant directly in the ground (enriched with proper soil) or just in containers?

Hello Foodall,

I grew a few patches in the Fl. outdoors a few years back. I usually transplanted my ladies in early April. That gives them a chance to get established before it warms enough for the pests to thrive. Seeing what you've amended your plot with I assume you are leaning toward organic. Since you are restriced to just a couple of plants I recommend goat manure. Great stuff. Its available at most nurseries. Peat moss works good to loosen soil, that is true, but be aware that peat will drasticly change your ph. Test your soil. Other than that, its pretty easy to grow in your climate. Now when they bud its a whole differant ballgame. Mold and hurricanes will command your attention.

hope this helps,
Seed

It helps a lot, thanks! If there were a karma system I'd award you guys karma points.. ;)

Looking forward to the outdoor yield this year - the test clones yielded about 2 quart jars worth of some GREAT smoke, although the bugs freaked me out. But once they started drying the bugs seemed to disappear. Like i said before, I still love hydro, but the quality of the bud from outdoors was equally good, but way different in terms of high. I liked it VERY much. the clones were Ultimate moonshine (thanks JLP) and very very heavy on the side of the LUI. The hydro produced a heavy body stone (VERY HEAVY) and was great for chilling - the outdoor produced an expansive trippy high that seemed to last forever.. Equally enjoyable but different nonetheless.

I went ahead and started germing the femmed Masterkush seeds yesterday! Anyone ever grow these beautiful ladies outdoors?

Thanks, man! Do you have any insight into the time for flowering? Someone told me they were LONG in flower... others have said since it's an indica - it's got the typical 62 days flowering time..

yup..around weeks of flowerig till its ready...

but i dunno about the flowering time cause there in florida u got a kind of tropical season...you are closer to the equator than me...

anyways here in Italy they finish around the end of october...

growing in florida in your backyardwould be great. i myself was forced to grow out in the woods and it wasnt easy at first.hardest part for me was security coming and going to the plots and hauling water. now i wait till the rains come and it's here thank God then you contend with slugs, panthers, bears, hogs, snakes, armadillo's you name it. but i have found that chicken wire, neem oil,cat shit seem to work pretty good for me. if your able to grow in your backyard you should be able to grow monsters. i hope you have success this season.
