Flora Micro Hardwater vs Reverso Osmosis

S

schmoe

Hi
The tap water in my area is hard- about 300-350 ppm. Calcium hardness is 150 ppm. I believe it may be causing Mg deficiencies.

Will GH Flora Micro Hardwater help? It seems designed for my situation.

Or should I not waste my time with that and just get a cheap reverse osmosis filter. Maybe like this.

I dont need much water every day.

Is the flora micro hardwater worth trying in a situation like mine? Any thoughts?

thanks!!

If your only having a MG issue and not ph, I would supplement future soil mixes with lime. That would be the cheapest route and most natural.

If you do buy an RO system you will them have to supplement with ca-mg (which is the same thing) and in my mind only belong in traditional hydroponics.

2 tablespoons per gallon of soil, but I do have a sativa that demands 4 so play with it.

I should add that I use Lucas and have similar water.

Good Luck!

Get an R/O machine and a bag of Epsom salts... then run 6/9 with a pinch of epsom (if you still see the mag deficiency). Problem solved.

Bottom line... you'll never be able to keep the elements in your tap water out of your plants... I've used R/O only for 10 years and tap water grown/flushed meds are harsh to my sensitive palate. If it's buggin' me, you don't want it in your body. :D

hardwater formulas work great... I prefer the ionic to gh...
using veg+bloom custom formulated to my tap
I have an ro, and I use it to make drinking water

Most nutes recommend their "hardwater" formulas if your tap comes out at or above 250ppm, so I would say to definitely give it a shot.

I switched to tap from RO and couldn't tell a difference in taste or yield. I have also blind taste tested ppl and they couldn't tell the difference either. Take it for what its worth.. Cept now I don't have to add back the CalMag, and get the convenience of turning the hose on.

I won't use or recommend RO water anymore after I realized just how much water is getting wasted down the drain. If anything you can get a small boy water filter to do a nice job cleaning up the water for you. It will knock your ppm down to 80-100 and doesn't waste water..

Just saying.... if you don't use R/O throughout your grow... I'm not interested in your meds. The difference is that bad... greater or lesser depends on your water quality.

I have yet to live in an area where the water content wasn't apparent in the end product when R/O isn't used. Unless you're using a lab to test your end product... you'd do well to listen to someone as sensitive as I am on this subject.

I hear what you are saying, and I'm not doubting that you can taste the difference. I'm just saying that I don't need a lab tell me if something tastes good. Maybe my tap water is good? Dunno..

What are the additives that are in tap water that you're tasting?

Stay away from any kind of natural water. And be sure to use processed chemical fertilizer with the R/O water, wouldn't want a technology lockup.
And this is a MAJOR alert, some ferts have animal POOP in them, gotta be bad to smoke.

Maybe some people should stay away from all meds if their brains are gonna get screwy.

Now you're being a deliberate ass-hat.

As i understand it, the residential ro systems like the one you've shown are not designed to treat as many gallons as the aquarium or hydroponic ones. So you end up having to piss away alot of money on filters if you are using it alot. The ones with the tanks are designed for small amounts of drinking water.
