FLIR Coming to Consumers

O

OGShaman

New from Flir that was I guess unveiled at the CES expo this week FLIR ONE - Flir Imaging for the iPhone. Interesting. I didn't copy the whole PDF so more info and pictures of it in action at http://www.flir.com/flirone/press/

Please don't think I am fear mongering, it's just good to know what's out there!

Flir® Unveils the First
Personal Thermal imaging
Device for Consumers
World Leader in Infrared Cameras Puts Powerful
Imaging Technology in Consumers’ Hands with FLIR ONE™

WILSONVILLE, OR – January 7, 2014 – FLIR Systems, Inc.
(NASDAQ: FLIR), the world leaders in thermal imaging technology,
announces the launch of FLIR ONE™, the first personal thermal
imaging device especially targeted at the consumer market.
Unveiled at CES 2014 (Booth#20422), FLIR ONE places powerful
thermal imaging technology in the hands of consumers,
dramatically extending the limits of human vision and unlocking a
full spectrum of practical applications.

As the first and only personal thermal imager for the consumer
market under $350, FLIR ONE is compact, easy-to-use, compatible
with the iPhone5 and 5s and fits on the phone like a protective
case.
Once mounted, the device displays a live thermal image of
the world right on the phone’s screen, giving users unprecedented
ability to “see” in an array of conditions, including complete
darkness. Originally developed for military night vision, this game changing technology has revolutionized modern law enforcement,
search and rescue, security, and surveillance. Now, consumers
can apply the power of FLIR ONE to home improvement, outdoor
recreation, security, safety, and much more.

coming to a ripper near you.

LOL! YEP! I wonder how many grows they can spot per hour driving around at night. Heat dispersion/exhaust will be very important now, as well as extra security precautions. Trained German Shepards and security cameras are the best preventative other than S'ingTFU.

The serious Rippers already have this tech and are using it in the UK, I posted about it a year ago. The tool they use is not something you can integrate into an iPhone, but is being actively used to spot grows to rob. Any blanked out windows at the front of the property, or exhausting to publicly viewable areas is seriously risky. The Police in NL also use this Tech and have shared it with the Spanish here to my certain knowledge.

fantastic news,$350 for piece of mind of knowing that a grow didnt stand at. i would love one right just to use on the house for insulation.

That's bad, but at least it's a fairly expensive extra thing you need to buy. It would be really bad if it was a free app.

...i'm with VonBudi on this one and think this would be a great tool for each of us to have, just to check our own ops to see where we leak, ...with this we would KNOW our op was invisible to FLIR because we would seal all heat signature leaks.

...this only gives the rippers an advantage if they have this tool and you do not.

peace, bozo

I do not know how much these things are or were, just that people had their hands on them, that rippers were actively using them to scan whole areas.

The tool I was warned about is commonly used in the building industry, for compliance with EC regs re insulation.

Luckily all the Android apps claiming to do this on Play look to be bullshit, but sadly this is not alll..

thank you. no phones/apps can do this right now tmk, dont think theres much quality control for apple/android apps, all kinds of gimmicky apps like fingers scanner, lie detectors, prostate checker etc. have you ever heard of grow shops renting out flir cams?

flir cameras.. hand helds have been out for years... and its a lot harder to spot a grow then u would think.. unless u just tossed up a room with panda film . and an exhaust.. .. but if u use the right insulation n such.. u cant see shit.. then.. use exhausts that u can cut a hole bigger then ur dryer hole.. or use an existing chimney .. especially since u can easily spot hot air coming out of anyones house.. lol just need to be smart.

My house is insulated poorly and all my heat goes out all over the place in the winter, and my cold air in summer. Its pretty pathetic. Its a rental. If I ever FLIR'ed my house it would prob be so funny Ide laugh outloud. I have 1/4' gaps were I can see right outside, around the heat exhaust duct for my house. I tried to insulate it the best I could but its pointless.
Every window in my house has huge gaps.
I dont hardly have to use my heat in winter cuz the neighbors heat keeps my place toasty. LOL There is no insulation in their cielings so it all comes up through the floor boards. Usually wood floors are cold in winter. Not mine. I dont even wear socks. LOL.

So I think that keeps me pretty safe if they ever tried to FLIR me, my exhaust just looks like every window and vent in my house. LOL

Agreed Flir cameras have been out for a long time, but they are pretty expensive, and geared towards professionals. I have seen HVAC guys use them to find heat leaks and that type of thing.

This thing is just an addon for the iPhone targeted at regular people, which is where the difference lies. I have a feeling the thing won't work nearly as well as the more expensive professional models though the pictures I have seen look pretty good.

Just snaps on.

This has always interested me. I saw video of it and the clarity is intense. A big give away, but then again, who can vent their dryer vent as a clean exit? lol

Lol flir isn't going to give you much of a headache as long as you know how to tackle the problem!, flir cannot see through houses, but it can see where there is concentrations of heat in a certain part of a house, to tackle this, you always vent downwards, and try to spread the heat around the house, also cool tubes are a good idea if you are paranoid.

also never vent hot air to the outside of the house, the exhaust is what the police are looking for, a row of houses exactly the same yet one has a hot air plumb in an unusual place, put 2 and 2 together!
