Flip flop questions.

Hey all

Been bouncing my head off this thread

There is some info here in the DIY thread vault- but in every one I find some missing bit.

I’m mostly curious how/where/when one attaches the mechanical timer that controls when/which hoods flip.

I’m in no rush, but I would love to wrap my head around this build.


Any experienced DIYers out there??

I have owned and used a number of flip boxes but I have no diy experience with building them. All mine have had a 120v trigger cable you plug into a seperate external timer. When the trigger cord supplies power it turns on one bank of lights, timer cuts power and it flips to the other bank of lights.

The timer attaches to the control coil on the relay that is attached to the ballast lamp output.
The build that you have the link to is over complicated than need be by building the flip into the ballast box.
Most folk use a regular ballast then wire the flip into the lamp cord.
What do you need to know about flips?
