relay: Potter & Brumfield PRD-11AY0-120 Power Relay
Setup: http://www.icmag.com/gallery/data/500/7541relaywire.jpg

Issue!!!: the light is not switching when the timer flips the relay. the relay seems to be working. It will switch terminals with the timer, but the light doesnt switch. the light just blinks and turns back on. once in a while the light switches. anyone had this issue? :yoinks:

Since you have got no replies:
My guess is that you are exceeding the contact voltage rating of the relay. (600V) This can result in the contacts sticking and/or arcing.
I have said it before and i will say it again... Switching the ballast output is a bad idea. If you want to flip-flop, you should use two ballasts and switch the power to the ballasts. Not the output of the ballast. That is my story and i am sticking too it!
Good Luck

Edit: Please consider moving that ground terminal to the enclosure. (away from relay contacts) That ground terminal is very close to the HV contacts.

So i have a timer from walmart. one of the "heavy duty" ones with a dial. should i need to rewire that? could that be why it isnt working? anyone?

Stay Puft is right, you are trying to fire a cold bulb w/ a hot ballast. Best bet is to use another timer and relay to break the ballast power for a good 5 minute cool down period between firings of the bulb. That or build a Flip Flop with a Smart Relay
