http://www.icmag.com/ic/showpost.php?p=519293&postcount=113

:( I need this made by next week.. So please anyone that can edit on the the pictures ans post them or explain exactly what Ill need to buy from Lowes or HomeDepot in order to have 2 lights switchings hourly. or ever 2 hours.. or whatever I want. So with the timer...

Thanks guys

Why would you want to switch the lights every hour?

Because im using

1x 400watt HPS
AND
1x 400watt MH

I want mix spectrum...I dont know exactly what time sched Ill use for the flip and flopping lol But whatever thats not my concern atm... I just need to know how to make this thing :p

Because my CAB is going to be a 24/7 flower CAB.. so the lights will ALWAY be on a 12/12 schedule, SO for the 12 hours the lights are on.. I want each bulb to be on equally(6hours and 6hours) BUT not on at the same time. Because I only want to use 1 ballast.

So anyone know exactly what I need to buy.. Like what is the main thing they that dude connected all the wires too... and how big like "specs" wise should I use for 400watt ballast..

... wtf cant anyone just tell me what the device is? I know so many people have looked at this that know... I already have the 2 bulbs.. im not wasting my money to buy ANOTHER Bulb..

And I wouldnt get as much out of a full spectrum bulb then I would from 2 bulbs with the different spectrums...

Because a full spectrum doesnt have same amount as 2 bulbs 1 MH and 1 HPS...

One ballast isnt going to run a MH and HPS bulb. The HPS has a starter that the MH doesnt have.

For the expense of of building a flip flop, you can buy another bulb.

You are doing more than flip flopping. You are asking the system to alternate between 2 bulbs for 12 hours, then stay off for 12 hours (or switch to another room, you said the cab will be flowering 24/7?). Thats one extra function thats not part of the flip flop design

IMHO:
I think noone is replying because bro... this is the wrong approach to "full" spectrum.
I believe most people use flip flops to keep power consumption constant and not to do what you are asking. (This is done in case LEO is looking at power records for power consumption rates that have incriminating "cycles".- whatever that means.)

You realize that cutting lamp on/off hourly will most likely EAT bulbs ($) at an alarming rate compared to normal use? So much so that you could have spent the money on another ballast. Probably one reason why this is not done.

I don't know much about em but have you considered CMH? Or get another ballast.

Edit: The device he is using to switch is typically called a Relay or Dedicated Contactor. (DPST or DPDT configuration depending on application)

Hi Military,

A flip flop is made using a relay with two output circuits, one circuit wired NO and the other one NC. The switch on a timer is connected to the relay coil when off passes power through the NC contact and when on passes power through the NO contact.

I have a MH conversion bulb.. I already know the differences between the bulbs... Thats a noob mistake :p BUT what I didnt know or consider is the 12 hour off period.. point taken yamaha_1fan....

And Id have the bulbs on for 6 hours periods.. I was thinking about the bulbs burning out fast whne i thought about the off on off on every hour..

SOOO I think then Ill just say fuck it.. Ill just hook it up how and What i got right now.. and Ill just change the bulbs like once a week or something :p

PROBLEM SOLVED !!

BUT what i did learn though :p nifty little thing.. Is to make a connection on each the Ballast end, and Lamp end, with the Male and Female parts of a 16gauge extention cord :p

Ill have 2 tubes in my CAB still, Ill just have to plug what ever one I want on into the ballast :p nifty little thing though :p

well Finally, Fucking thats what i need guys :p See just took 3 posts to get me moving again..

BAD IDEA.....lights take a while to warm up and use quite a bit of energy doing so. You setup will be super shitty in efficiency. Your idea sucks.....no offense. Just run the fucking hps. You'll get way more yield than your idea....or suck it up and buy ANOTHER bulb.....your gonna have to in a year anyways.

2buds- I didn't get mad lol Just so many people just look but never post.. how long does it take to type something up.. 3mins maybe..

Thanks though,, BUT I figured out what im going to do now, My brother is an electrician but, I hate asking him for help just because hes a pain in my ass.. lol

Johnny Rotten- Cool? maybe read more then my first post to educate yourself some more on how the thread progressed...
YOu obviously don't know what the MH bulb does to the plants.. whatever though. Also, my brother is an electrician and I myself have put a multimeter on my bulbs as they turned on... the amount of electricity they use while start up isn't enough to make a difference,
if you cant spend that extra $.25... well your a cheap ass.

And I have both bulbs already...only clue that told me you didn't read shit.

1x 400w HPS
1x 400w MH conversion

both run on HPS ballast.

also, I don't want both lights running, thats ANOTHER clue that told me your post was pure ignorance. This would make my .. CAB a 800watt CAB.. wtf, thats just craziness, I'm not about to put money in a HUGE ass fan just to have 800watts in a small area, that would probably get better results with the 400watt...

Size and lighting go hand in hand dude.

And unless my bulbs break, i wont need to buy more, becuase I dont give a freak if there light starts to degrade... Its a plant. lol Not my life.

Good Day..
==============================================================
I'm retiring this thread... anyone posting after my post here, will not read, I have my problem solved by the 3 lovely posts near the top.. YOu guys really helped me out.

^^^ Thanks guys for your help :p Yamaha making a great point.. and Stay Puft also mentioning the break rate of the bulb would increase totally understandable.
RG with finally a answer to my question about relay and what not :p
Thanks a lot those were exactly the kind of posts I was looking for :p Mature and professional.

Military - Switches aren't really my forte', but I'm sure you could find a manual switch that would be easy to install and would save you the trouble of switching cords everyday.
