First timer.Led question

Hi,guess this is the right place to post this.
I'm thinking of spend 400-500US on a led panel.
Is it a triband i will need, and only use the panel from seed to harvest and no supplement lights?

Hope for good answers:tiphat:

-Admin: Please move this to the right area if this is wrong:)

-Sorry not so good wrighting folks..

Hey borg,
I don't have enough experience to give you good advice about led panel but I noticed you have "first timer" as your topic. If you have never finished a grow you may want to get everything set up the way you want and get your feet wet with a CFL lighting grow. The initial investment is low, you are able to grow from start to finish if you use the right kelvin temp. bulbs and you can dial in any problems with your set-up before spending the cash on a system you may want to tweak. That said, I think led lighting looks great and if you go in that direction right off the bat I wish you the best of luck!

LED
I like LED! But I would (and will) use it as an xtra source combined with HPS.
Take a look at some of the results a 90w UFO gives and you will be amazed! And don´t listen to those talking about lumens, LED penetrates in a different way, and is a very good source for plants.

I was originally planning to go with led lighting... then I got into cfls.

I did all the research and I just found too much conflicting information. Minimal heat is awesome, but if your light dies in the middle of a grow?

If I were you, I would install some light sockets for an emergency. That way you can plug in a few 42 watt cfls and never miss a beat. BTW I'm assuming you are using some sort of cabinet for your grow.

Have fun. I'm positive that a UFO will provide you with a steady supply of bud with minimal power consumption. Just remember a carbon filter I think that is the most important piece of equiptment in any grow.
Cheers mate!

I have used cfl, hid, and now use just LED in my main grow.

Being that the LED lighting is in a stage of booming developmental growth right now I might agree with the above.... starting with CFL is not a bad decision or a waste.

Going LED will require you to do a lot of homework on what is the best for your situation and $$$ if you want success. Also, there are a lot of people claiming that their panels are the best for many different reasons. You will find, as you dive deeper and learn more about LEDs, that where there are some really cutting edge products out there there is also a bunch of snake oil salesman too. Buyer BEWARE.
Also, since LED development is booming there are new upgrades to and new product in general every couple of months ..... Brand A might be the best today but maybe Brand E has the best setup 6 months from now. Homework.

For these reasons is why I say CFL is not a bad suggestion as it will give you time to do your LED homework while you get used to growing in general for a couple of cycles. Then
after say 6 months you will probably get more bang for you buck by either getting a panel with the newest technology, more efficient LEDs available, or maybe even a slightly lower price.
If you went this route then when you switch to LED you are then just adjusting your knowledge and grow to using the new LEDs and your cfl can get repurposed for a small mom/clone room.

LED can and are used now as a one and only light source, you just need to buy a QUALITY panel ..... anyone that tells you other wise probably has not used a quality panel (even though they may tell themselves they did) ... homework. The tech is here and now and is a great choice for certain situations .. like mine.

I suggest you look at proof .... look at other peoples grows with various brands of LEDs in the general price range you are looking at. See the grow logs of as many people as you can on many different web sites ..... Look at LED only grows if that is what you want to do. look at side by side grows. after awhile you will notice big differences in the quality panels. Homework

Everyone has hype but only some have proof of performance ... and there is where you want to spend your money.

you can check my album to see which panel I picked.... it works great for me in my situation.... but after your homework you will be able to pick what is probably best for YOUR situation.

good luck and happy growing.
