First time, some advice?

Hey guys, I'm making my first grow.
I'm gonna grow five White Widows from Female Seeds, soil based in my closet at my new apartment.
Using one 400 watt HPS bulb from Home Depot, and an AC unit for cooling my plants. Gonna get some odor control carbon filter, and some myler. For fertilization I"m gonna use my own urine filled with multivitamins diluted with water. Any other suggestions to make this a successful grow for me?

Jess - first welcome to IC - looks like you will have many friends. Might I encourage you to brouse arouns and read up some while your waiting on those plants to grow.

Your piss has nitrogen, although there are many better products out there.
Why spend money on setting everything up only to use substandard nutrients?
Invest the 20 bucks in some good nutrients, it is well worth it.

Pass on the urine man..

Although I do piss around the perimeter when growing outdoors in order to keep pothead deer away .. The ladybugs, ants and spiders to a good job protecting the plant from other pesky critters..

Keep it clean

..just add some TLC to that and you'll be fine.

Make sure that your growspace does not let in any light when flowering.. not any more than the moon would shine anyway..

24/0 lightschedule is a overkill... 18/6 or 20/4 yeilds better results IMO

Keep temps around 27 degrees C/80 degrees F

An inexpensive way of providing CO2 is to have wine or beer brewing in the same place.. In case your space isn't limited..

Remeber to foliar feed in the morning.. especially underneath the leaves.. I use seaweed extract because it smells good and the plants love it.

Keep the light at a distance from the cola that is comfortable for your hand... But remember that a plants stretches for light and it will also streth to aprox two times it's height during flowering.

..and rotate your plants every now and then

Forget the piss and spend some coins on good ferts.

You need to bring in fresh air to grow. If you try to grow them in stale air down there--even if it's cool, then they will be puny. They need fresh air with it's CO2 to properly grow.

You need a cool air intake and a hot air exhaust.

Make sure your planting containers have big holes for drainage. Make sure you use a soil that has lots of perlite. Use organic nutes. You don't even need to use any nutes until 2 weeks after germination and at half strength for the first dose. If you can't use reverse osmosis water then use distilled water if your tap water is suspect.

Floros are good for germinating. Dont stick a HPS light 2 inches above a seedling. It will vaporize it in a few minutes! Seeds like things warm and moist to germinate. 80 to 85 degrees and moist is great to germinate. After germination lower the temps!

Get a thermostatic control to control your room temps. Daytime temps of about 77 degrees and night time temps of 65 degrees seem to be sweet. Get a small fan to blow across the plants after germination. Don't have a hurricane, just a gentle breeze to begin with. Wind velocity can increase later once the stems get strong and the lights get brighter.

BOG's soil methods are pretty good but some people have modified some of his ideas--they don't like WalMart soil and his claim of using superthrive in early flowering has been questioned by the old farts.

Carbon filtering isn't a bad idea either if you want to have no worries...

There are cool lights that you can hook carbon filtering to... or modify your own

That's called killing two birds with one stone man

and plants love the blue Metal Halide spectrum during vegging so that's not a bad idea either.. They get real bushy and keep a low profile..

HPS = Red/Yellow

That pretty much covers the suns spectrum... (observe how the curve drops at green light).

But I'm still pushing for Ultraviolet-B too man.. as it is included in the lower parts of the suns photosynthetic spectrum.. well within the range of cartenoid pigment... and might boost trichome production indoors. Tricomes are reflecting UV too you know to depend the plant.. as well as fending off pests and humidity... Sunblock 5000

Thanks for your help you guys, I really apreciate. I'm just tired of Mexican dirt weed. I live in a small Texas home and its gay as hell. What are some good fertilizer's to look for, we don't have any hydroponic supply store but we have a few nurseries so I can look there. As for the air intake, outtake for getting fresh air, there really isn't many options there. I can't drill holes and I"m not gonna make a cabinet. To make CO2 I saw some shit about fermenting milk and yeast or some shit like that. Oh, and about the thermostatic controller, thats why I was setting in an AC, so it never gets hotter than 72 degrees in the room and my it also doubles as a fan so I can keep my plants strong. If you have any more suggestions I'm greatly thankful

Man, what's the deal with all the piss for nutes talk lately. I have to say this is the second or third thread I have read in as many days in which someone wanted to know the virtues of using piss as a part of or their only nute regime. Piss is not an effective fertilizer or nutrient suitable for growin or smokin quality cannabis. Maybe if you are on a deserted island or something but otherwise there are many many other options out there. You can drink it also if your dying or are stranded for an extended amount of time but your not going to do it if there is a glass of Gatorade sittin right beside you or even within a 100 miles, grab that Gatorade my friend.

If you are in Texas there are plenty of places to get actual nutrients formulated to maximize your plant growth, performance and overall growing experience. Texas is a hotbed of growers so believe me when I tell ya that there are much better options available to ya than piss. I would use soil and superthrive(available at your nursury) alone before piss would even enter my mind.

Botanicare's Pure Blend line is an organic mainstay for alot of us and is a available from Brownsville to Amarillo and from El Paso to Texarkana. Triflex is another product they(botanicare) offer that is a simple three part and works great from what I have seen.

http://www.texashydroponics.com/shop/home.php is a great place to start and ships statewide/nationwide as well being able to go to their actual stores and pick it up in person in Dallas, Austin, or Houston and that is just one supplier of many that cover the Texas market.

Don't worry about co2 yet, there are alot of way more important things to address first. Don't worry about an a/c either until you actually have a heat problem, 72 degrees is pretty chilly for plants anyways.

I would get some Foxfarm soil and Pure Blends original organic formula for soil to start, maybe a small circulation fan, and a 400watt hps or switchable mh/hps ballast. You might even step to a digital ballast because they are able to run either light configuration without anything else being done to them and heat buildup is way less of an issue.

Good luck, mexi brick does suck but smokin a piss laden bud is not to far above it.

Many many years ago. I was woking painting for some extra money. We were doing an outside job, in a residential neighborhood. Well there was no where for us to use the restroom, so we went in our trailor, pissed in a can and just dumped it on this lady's lawn...BIG freackin mistake! There were dead patches everywhere, She was pisssed,lol!

I wouldnt use urine on my plants because there are so many better things to use lol,the idea is to dilute around 10 to 1 I believe,its not going to burn patches of grass that way but I still wouldnt use it unless I had absolutely nothing else to use and I had a nit defeciency.I agree,too many pee pee posts
