First time sealed room

What's up icmag,

Been a member for a while here just been lurking around reading a much as possible. I've been growing for a little over 5 years now and have only done fresh air grows and been wanting to step up my game and have more consistent yields hence the sealed room approach. I have a few questions for you sealed room pros if you could help a fellow grower out..

Room specs: 6'X6'X7'
1000w non vented
6500 btu window banger
30 pint dehumidifier
Small space heater
20lb co2 tank, regulator, atlas 7 controller
Titan controls zephyr 1 day/night temp controller
4 oscillating fans

So my question is how do I go about setting up my room so my Temps stay consistent? I have been playing around with the digital thermostats on the ac and space heater but my Temps seem to get too hot at times reaching up to 90 degrees. I just recieved the day/night temp controller last night and hooked it up to my heater but it doesn't come on and I'm wondering if it's cause of the digital thermostat the heater Comes with.. so if anyone could point me in the right direction as to how to keep my environment balanced It would be much appreciated thanks icmag..

If you're, in effect, by-passing the thermostat on your heater with another controller, turn the heater up all the way, then set the controller to the desired level. Good luck. -granger

I've noticed that the thermostat on some of my space heaters doesn't appear to be very accurate, granger is right about the heat issue. Also just a friendly thought, a 6x6 floor would be awesome for 4 x 600 watt lights. Good luck on your grow !

Thanks for the reply granger2. I will try that and see that solves the problem.. I don't really trust those thermostats that come with those heaters..

I have an update on the room situation. Max room temp still too high, 92 degrees.. can't figure why it climbs that high? Got the window banger set at 78, wondering why it let's it climb that high.. you guys think I should set up my temp controller to an exhaust to kick on when Temps exceed 85 degrees but my only concern is c02 will be suck out and ima go thru c02 quicker, any suggestions would be much appreciated.. thanks icmag!

The 6500 btu window banger should have enough capacity to handle the one light and dehuey, those together shouldn't need more than 5k or so. Are you sure the AC is in good working order, and have you verified with a second thermometer that the Titan is calibrated correctly? Last thing, what RH are you running? With co2 and adequate air movement you could run RH up to 78 or so and have temps upper 80's and the plants will grow phenominally. I'm wondering if you have the dehuey set at 50 or 60 and it's always working, always blowing extra hot air that the AC can't keep up with. Maybe make it work a little less and the temp and humidity will meet in the middle, as long as your within VPD guidelines your all set.

Hey cold canna thanks for the reply, now that you mention the dehuey I have noticed it always bein on when I go into the room, ima gonna have to check that out.. question for you how would I know if the a/c is in good working order? Also how do I go about checking if the titan controller is calibrated with a thermometer? And I usually try and keep 50% rh in flower..

AC units need occasional cleaning to work at full output. It's fairly simple, you take off the trim panels and vacuum and scrub out the inside, they make a special cleaner for that too which you can buy at the box stores . This link is a better step by step than I could here.

I doubt this is your problem, but if there was a small refrigerant leak the AC would also underperform. But unlikely, I would start with the cleaning.

As far as making sure the Titan is correct, I just meant throw an extra thermometer in the room, just a normal $5 one that you have in your kitchen window to see if your reading of 90 degrees is it fact 90 degrees. You would also be well served to read about vapor pressure deficit or VPD, running really low RH levels actually hurts performance of the plant. (Not a weed growers theory but proven botany). Many very successful growers use this method, you can leave your RH up in the high 70s then maybe for the last 2-3 weeks start to bring it down to 60 to stave off any possible rot. But the end result is healthier plants and your not pissing money away having that 1500 watt dehuey running 24/7. Good luck whatever you do.

Thanks coldcanna I will check a/c and give it a nice cleaning it's been a while since I've cleaned it, that might have something to do with it. As far as vpd I have read very little on it, Its just hard to keep humidity that high while lights on without a humidifier.. I'm wondering if I can set up my dehumidifier to a timer to just turn on while lights off due to the fact that it has a built in digital thermostat??

I plan on running the dehuey at lights off, i just wanna put it on a timer so it's off during lights on cause it seems to always be running constantly. Don't know if that's possible tho I might have to turn it on/off manually at light on and off..

The deheuy will always be running when plugged in, but will cycle the compressor when it's higher than the set rh level.
