First time scrog

Greetings to all my IC brothers, and sisters, I have a few questions and I was wondering if someone would be so kind as to answer them. I have a few indoor grows under my belt, so I have the general feel and experience down, but now im considering doing a scrog grow within the upcoming months. So my knowledge thus far about scrogging is that, I know what the basic idea of a scrog is, its just that I dont know how to put it all into action. Really, any pointers, tips, or just general comments about pulling off a Scrog would be greatly appreciated. Seriously, anything, im the dark here people help a grower out.

Peace
Bravado!

Hi bravado, not sure if i can help you lot :) Today I started my first scrog too, and if you dont mind I post my pictures of it. Maybe I 'm too paranoid, but this scrog doesnt look fine for me :( I don't know how it will cover screen
Should i do something to help her?

solvent, do you have the main stem of the plant tied down so that it grow sideways or is that plant just growing straight up? It looks like you forgot to bend it over, but you can still do that. Are you still vegging or did is it now flowering?

I tied to screens wire with that white teflon strip, it is not horizontal though. Do you think I should lower my screen? My girl showed preflowers so I'm thinking of 12/12 very soon.

hello,i been doing scrogs for about a year, still learning.1st i fiil screen about 70 percent then move to flowering it fills in the rest.2nd keep tucking and tieing down the branches and leaves untel they start getting hairs!then only tuck in the leaves when you have to! i use dows from lows and 1 inch fencing from there[plastic metal will do]i was tapeing screens to the dow rods but now about to get a bunch ofsmall car clams for that.i use tape to keep dows stuck to my 3 gallon pots but i'm going to look for some pipe clamps for that ,know more wasting tape i hope lol.hope this helps some just remember to keep tucking your leaves untel buds start with hairs.ps. i keep mine about 12 inches

tie them over as in LST {low stress training} i have the tutorial in my gallerystart off early like 2-3 wk of age before the screen is over the plants. this is the time to try n get the canopy even during LST when ya have a full even canopy place the screen over the plants 8-10 inchs above the plants tops i have another tutorial on super simple scrogg by big_buddha from overgrow. you can FIM that tutorial in my gallery also instead of topn plant, fim will produce 3-8 more growth shoots then a traditional topn and also helps to fill in screen with extra branchs that wouldnt be there in a regular topn. now im on my 1st scrogg i hastly threw 10 girls under the screen
i didnt LST just bent them over and placed screen ontop i let them recover 1 day then 12/12 them heres 4day flower

heres 9 days flower

heres last night 20 days flowering

notice my canopy isnt even but i'll just move taller branchs outta the way i'm still gonna have a nice harvest i FIM'd my plants once around 3 wks of age when i had enough growth through the screen i topped the main stem on each of the 10 girls in there. i have easy 100-120 tops through the screen like i said i hastly dont the scrogg,

solvent if you fim each growth shoot you'll bush out w/in a few wks and fill the screen

In that case, may i suggest you grow a few plants LST style first and find a good mother plant to take clones from. Done correctly you will achieve the same principal as a scrog ( level canopy of tops )

Ideally you want female plants ONLY in your scrog. If you start from seed and go through the training process but then end up with some male plants it could be a right ballache having to remove them later.

I've been scroggin' for years ( hydro ~ N.F.T).... so lets clear a couple things up here.

The screen is THE training device. If you've already LST'd and achieved a nice even canopy there's no need to chuck a screen over it.
What you do is grow the plant to screen height and then train the branches underneath and along the screen. Everytime a growing top is long enough to reach the next hole you tuck it under and along to that hole.
When you to switch 12/12 ( ie ~ how full the screen is ) is very much strain dependant. If you're growing a strain which stretches a lot you wouldn't fill the screen as full as you should still be training for 10 days or so into flower,,,,, and you use that time ( and stretch ) to fill it up.
Basically ~ keep training until buds start showing and then leave them alone to do their thing.

FIM ( cut through the growing tip leaving about 15% of the top ) : unless you've got this down to a fine art its pretty much hit or miss. You could end up with anything from getting it totally wrong (and so in effect just topping ),,,or get 8 new tops. I've done scrogs with topped plants and plants that have been left alone,,, and to be honest i cant see any advantages to topping plants. Sure, topping will encourage the lower branches and new branches to grow, but left untopped the main top will probably produce just as many ( if not more ) new branches anyway.
I wouldn't even consider FIM. The canopy can get so dam crowded one thing i dont want is the possibility of 8 new tops all growing in the same little area. Its very easy to fill a screen with hundreds of tops at the onset of flowering,, getting them all to grow to their potential is another matter.

thats my 2cents worth ~ for the time being :D
