First time making seeds - do I just leave male plant in same space?

I'll be making my first seeds (got a Panama Red male, besides that my Punta Roja, Acapulco Gold, Zacatecas x Michoacan, and other Panama plants are female). So going to have a ton of crosses hopefully, and pure Panama seeds.

One thing I'm not sure about is if I'm just supposed to leave the male there with the rest of the plants, or move it and separately pollinate or what not.

(I'm just making seeds for myself and to share. Will smoke of the stash as well. I don't have a separate tent, just an outdoor balcony I could put it on if anything)

What do you guys recommend?

I think its better to give the fems 2-3 weeks flowertime before the males so some flowermass can build up. I got the impression that when u hit a flower early it won't make much mass and focus at the seeds so u end with less seed and buds.

I agree in part. It may be true, it is... that once you have a pregnant girl, she will focus on seeds. That being said... If you select a branch to pollinate, while isolating the others (if you are making seeds for yourself ) and still want a reasonable harvest (in other words, you are not specifically breeding for seeds or buds, but a combination thereof). I would isolate the male (at 1st sign) and knock up my girl(s) when she is good and juicy for the lack of a better word, keeping in mind the flowering cycle of the girls as you need 6-8 weeks for seeds to properly mature. That is my understanding, many simply can't do "proper" breeding because of plant count regulations. One size does not fit all. :tiphat:

I agree. This has always yielded better results for me. When the pollen hits early I end up with less and oddly more in-ripe seeds. Isolate for 2-4 weeks depending on mother strains.

I would add that once the male goes out on the outdoor balcony, he should never come back in, or he could bring in unwanted guests with him. You wouldn’t want the girls to get mites or aphids, etc.

How far along are those males? And how much longer do u think OP can keep them before they bust a nut??

I have a male that is about 3 weeks in flower and I dont think hes made any pollen yet. I've tried fucking with the flowers and theres nothing in them

I think it's funny how ppl on internets say if u have a male, get it out asap, but its flowered 3 weeks and still no pollen, so wtf ?

20-100 seeds could come out of just one bud.
If you can get just one male stamen to drop it's load into a bag, you could then use a small paint brush to apply said pollen to the hairs on one of the girl buds. Indoors, in a still room, the pollen just falls and leaves a sandy looking pile. Very easy to get on a brush and go around the hairs on a bud. Outdoors, you could wait till it starts dropping, then paper bag a branch so it doesn't blow away. Consider wind direction though. Boys can get girls in trouble at considerable distance. It tends to be a bit damp and clumpy as it falls, but soon dries and then blows... miles.

If the boy drops early, you can bag and chill the pollen for some time. Then get the plant gone, and clean up properly. A hoover with hepa filter is safe.

I don't need much seeds, maybe like 20-100 seeds from each plant?

The plants: You'll take what we give you.

My first seed run, I couldn't believe how many seeds I got! While it's true that more seeds=less buds, I think it's great you're just going for it! Yeah, just put the male in there with your girls, he knows what to do, lol! Congrats- You're gonna be a grandpa!

Like others have said, if you want like 50 seeds per plant, put the male somewhere else, and pollinate one bud of each female with a paintbrush - that’s if you’re trying to get any bud from this run. If you want 1000s of seeds and no bud, then just leave him in there

I’ve seen that, I’ve also seen very quick males. Typically the male pre flowers and male flowers that developed first are the ones to drop. Sometimes that’s all it takes is a few pre flowers in a tent to get a good amount of seed.

browntrout so male preflowers do contain pollen?

Yes? I mean I assume as much lol. I’ve had clusters of male pre-flowers that pop like a ceiling fan with pollen sitting on the stem just below. Well before the maturity. I would think this is viable. Anytime I’ve noticed this it wasn’t long after before female hairs started browning at the ends.

I’ve also had herm male pre-flowers pollenate a bud run. So yes, I would definitely say pre-flowers have viable pollen.

Thanks man, I'm a noob in general but a super super noob when it comes to dealing with male plants.

I wondered if maybe it was like females in the way we dont want fem preflower we want actual flower, if that makes sense.

Thanks again
