Under $300? LOL.

My budget for my first grow was $1,200 and it should have been $2,500.

It's FARMING. It's never been easy and it's not cheap. Like anything else, there are cost barriers to entry.

Buy a tent that is at least 6 feet tall . My 5 foot tall tent causes problems because you need plenty of room for lights and carbon filter.

$300 budget?
You'll want to cruise through the "Micro Forum" here for some amazing information. You can grow quite a bit of cannabis on a Micro Scale with $300. :D

You're in the right place for info, since this is the largest and most accurate repository I'm aware of. All the cannabis specific information is the same, regardless of the size of your grow. :D

Welcome to ICMag!! :D

I agree with Curtis, size does matter!
At least when growing weed.
300USD is maybe pushing it but you can get a decent first setup for little money.
What I would recommend is a multi-compartment tent like the lodge series from secret jardin. This way way you can have mothers, grow cuts and flower at the same time. the smallest version with a flower compartment of 2'X2' will set you back a hundred bucks roughly. Then an LED light like the MarsHydro TS100, which will cost you roughly 150USD or you simply use SILs for the first couple rounds, which will be significantly less. Fan, ducting, carbon srubber, pots, medium, ferts and some bits here and there... I'd say it's doable for around 400$.
Or you can do it ghetto like many successful growers here and build out a cabinet, SILs for light, old bottles and buckets for pots etc... then 300$ will be sufficient.
Best of luck hombre and scan the micro forums here on IC. Immense knowledge to be found there.

If you're not a mexican cartel trying to flood the market in the US, a small set up is what I would advise.

Tbh, i would focus my cash on a light and fan and try to just build a box out of scraps. Depending on where you are located, craigslist could be a great resource to find cheap stuff.

How much do you need to produce to be self sufficient?

Edit: i would look into growing in coco with something like maxibloom for a beginner grow style, its pretty easy, you will need either ph strips or a cheap digital meter. Soil with some basic amendments is another cheap option, stay away from the overly complex mixes until further down the road.
