First stealth computer case grow

Hey there

Im thinking about setting up a micro grow of my own and am just looking for some advice about a few things. My plan is to have a completely stealthy and small computer grow box at home and due to this it has to be smell free and no light leakages

I was just wondering what the best cheap grow lights would be for a computer case grow for both vegging and flowering

Also what are a range of ways people can power the pc case fans and lights etc

And finally the case I should be getting is a thermaltake and I could also get a thermaltake 500w power supply if needed :tiphat:

thermaltake cases might not be lightproof as they are for cooling,. but tape fixes everything

cob/screw in led/fluor tubes would be best, worst would be hps/ufo lights

Hey mate cheers for the advice, I have a tube socket at home and the tube inside is too weak but is 43.74 cm long, what would be the ideal tube to put into that for 1 plant?

Also I have found 2 sets of lights (below) in case there is no way to use the tube socket, i was just wondering if they would both fit into the same socket and how would i get these to be powered by a 3 prong powerpoint (Australian Powerpoint) ?

Cheers guys, both of those links are very helpful

The LED's look like they'd be the better option but since its my first box im going to go with the cheaper CFL option :)

This might be up your alley. Even tells you where to get the components.

https://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=315849

Thelse COBs are what i ended up with in my PC. Spent around $100USD for the components. It is an advanced setup and some electrical knowledge is required. Runs much cooler than the 63W CFL I started with. :freezing:

I would highly suggest using these. They are only a few dollars more than the CFL, but are a much more efficient. Remove the plastic globe like blynx shows. Man his results speak for themselves! :plant grow:

I highly suggest the screw in LED bulbs blynx uses. I use similar ones in my filing cabinet and they work great. CFL are not cheaper if you switch to LED or COB later like I did.

Either way I'll be lurking in the corner. :lurk:

replacing a 1$ clf for a 5$ led after a year or so makes sense tho
it will lower his starting costs (grow weed for 50$ (pot+soil+seed+lights+tape=50$)
and leds keep improving and dropping in price, if youre in the usa the wattage difference isnt important costwise

Cheers ReikoX I think i'm going to find some e27 LEDS and give them a shot for the first grow and your 86 Watt LED filing cabinet looks dope, hopefully i'll create something like that someday

And HuffnPufferfish, I am definitely trying to make this initial grow box cheap as possible and will look to make more advanced ones in the future

What do you guys think of these (link below) for screwing my LED/CFL globes into? I need one that has an Australian adapter

And also when the lights aren't on would you still leave the fans running to circulate airflow and not let any of the smell leak out of the un filtered intake fan?

Ideally, you just have to ensure ambient temps stay warm enough.

For light sockets and bulbs just go to b*nnings and buy some bayonet or e27 sockets, they're about $3 each. A short, light gauge extension cable will give you a plug and all the wire you could possibly need, and the LED bulbs are available in 2x14.5w packs for $9.99. You probably want 3-4 of these bulbs and sockets for the space you have, should be under $40 for all your lighting.

Legend, I will definitely be heading to bunnings when I have some free time and can you please link me to the light gauge extension cable you are talking about? I'm having a little trouble finding it

I just meant to buy a cheap extension cable with as thin a cable you can find, it will be easier to cut up and route for wiring up your lights and isn't feeding a high current anyway.

You need to wire the lights in parallel, it might be easier to buy a few meters of single cable and just cut a power cable off a junk appliance.

:gday:

i understand ur wish to avoid electrical wiring and stuff, however in a pc case you will have to do some electrical work like rig up pc fans ect

because you r down under local stuff will be pricey

you can check out bunnings or woolies but prbably ordering from china will be best
http://www.aliexpress.com/

smth like this might be ur best bet

http://www.aliexpress.com/item/SMD-..._3&btsid=95a9bff3-3074-456a-b0d3-5da3fec176e2

it has a plug and power adapter(ballest) already included so you can just stick it directly to the case, line the walls ect

you can look around that site they will have anything u need

shipping takes about 3 weeks

Those are cool looking but super expensive. I can see them plugged into a powerstrip, so that would be convenient.

you run the fan 24/7
keep lights on a timer

:yeahthats

Your lights will still be warm foe a while after lights out, plus the plants will start to transpire and raise humidity when the lights off.

Sup Dion, I know you know your LEDS. I couldn't find any specs for those. I know the ones I got were not very bright and only pulled a couple of watts. I was using them as side lighting and decided they were a waste of time.

That being said, I moved them to the ceiling above my T5HO. I put my clones on top of the light and these are perfect for cloning.

yeah they r super pussy, average about 100L per watt and about 7w per meter

the advantage of these for OP would be no fuckin around with soldering or E27 socket to socket to plug adapter to power strip which would cost him a significant percent of his headroom

ofcourse with this approach in a PC case im talking LED wallpaper not a few strips mounted on the top

glad u asked
