First Project

Hello everyone! I'm stoked to finally be on here and getting ready to do my first grow project. I have been reading through the site and others for awhile trying to get as much info as possible as I would love to do this grow properly rather then just throwing a seed in some dirt and adding water.

I was hoping to get some help though. After going through many different soil mix recipes I like the idea of doing something to the effect of 60% soil mix, 30% perlite, 10% worm castings and adding dolomite, blood/bone/kelp meal. There are so many different soils that I saw recommended too, so after looking around what I have locally I may go with Super Soil (believe the richer NPK bag was .43-.12-.15).

This is where I was going to start looking for some advice from the pros. I am going to be doing outdoor and the spot I have is in a desert but near a river so I have a constant water source. Looking at the soil in the area it seems to be rich but kind of sandy. So I guess first off, does the recipe sound like a decent one to work with, given the conditions of where the grow is taking place? Any suggestions will be great and much appreciated. I know this is just the start of what will be many posts to come as I'm sure there will be many questions during the next few months. Thanks again!

Kiefin,

Welcome to the board....Goodluck with your room.....

I wouldn't use a potting mix with nutrients already mixed....I would either use Peat moss or coconut coir or a mix of the two as a base mix....Let me know what the plans are and I'll help as much as possible....Also, contact burn1 for recipes of the above ingredients....LC

Good luck on your grow and welcome to IC. For a complete guide to soil mixes and such go to the OFC. The link is in my signature.

Thanks LC and Vonforne. Found all kinds of good soil mixes and after going back out to the sight, have WAY more room then I originally thought. May even pop some more seeds because of it. Natural soil is pretty sandy but moist. Going to probably do steer manure and some of the natural soil at the bottom and then mix some soil (still a couple different mixes I have been looking at but will be making a final decision real soon). Right now popping afgani (mostly due to having a bunch of these from another growers unfortunate herm), sour diesal, tae kwon dojo, trainwreck, and then some unamed that came from some nice nugs and were quality bud. I'm going to keep updating for sure on how things go.
