First grow

Hiya Everybody,

Well I just switched my first grow over to a 12/12 cycle and took my first clones for future mommas. Unfortunatly I only have one closet so currently I have a ghetto-rigged flowerbox (black thing on the right) that I've tried to make as light-tight as possible. It has a 400w HPS in a vented hood, and I'm using spaceblankets for reflective siding with a computer fan venting the main chamber. I'm wondering if this will be enough to control the heat as spaceblankets are specifically made to reflect heat. I'm also worried about light-leaks, as I don't want to cover any vents and thus they do let some light inside from the flouro for my mother and clones nearby. Any suggestions or comments?

The plants are mostly chocolate chunks, with an apollos thunder and two BMRs thrown in.

(sorry about the poor pictures, I'll try to get better ones soon.)

I sure hope that black cloth is fire proof . If I were you I would find a cabinet or make one that drape over your light is not to safe. I am not trying to bust your balls just wouldn't want you to get hurt I have a double c22 cabinet with 2 400 watt lights in it an 309 cfm fan and my temps are running low 80's to mid 80's and I have maybe 8xs the space .Ibet your temps are pretty high you don't want to stress your plants .good luck and be careful. :yoinks:

Or a piece of plywood painted white.. screwed and glued to the hangers.. for plants sake.. So no plywood falls onto the lil ones.. cos that material could very well start a fire in the house... Just my 2 cents.. peace..

Theres got to be a way to section that closet off so you can have some piece of mind....& be safe. First off that 400w looks to need a little more room than that & i am sure you will need it once those plants start filling out. Just because the temps are in check(thanks to the a/c 400) doesnt mean that theres sufficient air flow to flower plants. I think you should do as everyone sugg. & either divide the closet w/ a piece of plywood -or- the like....or what i would look into is building a small shelf in the top...or upper corner of the closet & have the entire lower print to flower with. Be creative i sure can think of several ways you could go about this.

You do have a very nice space & great light to flower with i d sure like to see ya get the most out if it to pump up those c. chuncks. Good luck & peace out 3legs

welcome, welcome!!!

hi, penguins!!!

you've got a great space to start with...

you could divide it in half or 1/3-2/3 very easily WITHOUT THE FIRE RISK!!!

you could use more of your silver reflective material, or get some ...pand film...??i think that's what its called (thick plastic-white on one side, black on the other). divide your room as you see fit.

please take that cloth away from your 400 W fixture!!!

best wishes!!

p.s. i'm not trying to be a 'downer', i don't want you to watch your fire dept. leave your pile of ashes that used to be your home, that's all...

Thanks for all the suggestions!

I've taken off the black cloth, and as a temporary measure now I'm using it as a divider for the closet (I don't have anything else at the moment). I'm going to be moving in a month or so, so I don't really want to be doing anything too premenant like plywood or building shelves, so I'll probably pick up some of that plastic sheeting stuff tommorrow.

On another note, I think I have aphids....
I have neem oil, but is that OK to use now that i've switched to 12/12?

I've gotten rid of the black cloth finally, and now I have some of that pandafilm dividing things. Less light leaks, but it's still not completely dark. :frown:

The clones and the AT mother are on continious light. There's a little CO2 bike tire inflater in the clonebox that I had lying around, dunno if that'll really make a difference

I went ahead and sprayed them down with neem oil, looks like i've kicked the aphid problem for now.

Anyhow it's day 4 into 12/12, still no signs of buds :chin:, I'll post again once things start to pick up.

are you able to tell sex yet? and good job on getting rid of that blanket. if you needed something else to block light you could always use cardboard.
you can go to UPS stores and buy big boxes for under 10 bucks. and not the cheap cardboard, the kind that is like half an inch thick. and dont worry about fires with it, it has a burn temp of over 350 degrees. GreenStreet uses cardboard for his cab, says hes had it for over 5 years. so the stuff is sturdy too.

good luck! nice looking plants!
