first grow

hi im about to attempt my first grow and im a complete novice and i would like some advice, my grow space is approx - 60cm x 60cm base, 174cm high. I will be using a 400w sodium light, 1x 100mm carbon filter, 1x 100mm in line extraction fan, and 2 surface fans.
I am hoping to grow 4 plants at a time in coco, i will be manually feeding them, how often will i need to feed them and what quanties of weed do i give? when can they go into growroom from seed? what is the best and easiest way of germinating seeds?

I hope we're not that confused! Water, nutes, environment, time and love is all I give it. So far going good!

when can they go into growroom from seed?

This depends on what you are trying to achieve and what your environment will allow. Your 2'x2' area and height restrictions might be well for topping/FIM. Again, it's just my opinion but I would veg them in your area around 4-6 weeks and make sure they're not too big. Choices in genetics are important as well so look for something that suits you. Something short and doesn't stretch is what you're looking for.

thx cheeba i think im getting there, do u have to grow plants over set time? or can u speed it up using coco? if u can how would u give nuits etc?

If you top/FIM, you would need to give it an extra week to recover from the stress. I try to keep them in the vegetative state around 6 weeks or so. You are the artist and your objective is to sculpt the plant so it gets even lighting/canopy when going into flowering.

I can't comment on coco but I have read others who have used it the first week or so and transplant. Since you're a first time grower, I would try to keep it simple and just use soil. Experiment after your jars are full Maybe somebody else could comment on the use of coco.

Because I use FoxFarm Ocean Forest as my medium, I don't usually feed for the first 4 weeks. I'm sure you've read this thread about FFOF. After that, I slowly add nutes 1-2times/week. Use 1/4 to 1/2 strength to start and monitor closely.

thanx again cheeba, im lookin to grow 4 plants every 8 weeks, how long should i veg them for and how long in bloom? am i right in saying veg state is 18hrs light/6 hours dark, and flower is 12/12?

You can veg them as long as you like (to an extent) but when flowering, it matters by the strain/genetics (and Indica or Sativa). If you do not know of the genetics or history, then you will have to keep an eye on the trichomes to know when to harvest.

Those hours sound good as the norm of these is 16/8, 18/6, 20/4 & 24/0. And yes flowering should be 12/12.

I know you have limited space but maybe you should look into cloning. Check out Grat3fulH3ad's wick cloner
Caprichoso's water cloning. Might be useful if you haven't checked it out.

thx again cheeba and stoneyhucker, im not going to get in to cloning yet as i want to get the basics right first. i was thinking of vegging for 2-3 weeks then flowering for about 8 weeks depending on strain etc, would that be sufficient time in veg state? i will be using the persy grow box as my grow area, you can have a look yourself at www.persygrowbox.com, have a look and let me know what you think. i am going to start germinating first seeds later today using the papertowel method in my airing cupboard. anyway keep the info flowing much appreciated.

I too have a Persy box. On my second grow now. If you have any questions, do what I did and give them a call.They were very helpfull and talked me through from start to finish

germenating is done on a plate and a wet towel...and put that plate in a plastic bag for retaining the moist....tems should be aroud 22 & 23 C°

watering is best done with the 'weigh' methode....fill up you pots with soil....weigh them by hand aprox....then add water and weigh again by hand..notice the diffrence....and after few days when the pot is back 2 its first weight yuo should water again


starting from seeds...

in avgerage time....
seeds need at least 3 or 4 weeks vegtime that means on 18/6 or 24/24...how longer you veg the more plant you gonne have

nobody can say realy...this all depends on factors....lumenoutput, growexp,strain ect.....
