First Grow Question

I currently have 4 plants under a 400w HPS on 12/12, going on a week and half.
They are about 2ft tall, I am not sure of the genetics, one looks like a bushy indica, while the other 3 are more viney sativa looking. My questions are, when do plants usually start showing sex? (right now I dont see balls, i see what i think might be the hairs of a female, but it could be the growth of other leaves) , the other question is when is a normal timeframe to start seeing buds appear?

RJherb, welcome to IC and as for your plants they should be showing any day now, I grown some that has shown in 8 to 9 day’s and I’ve have some to go as long as 14 to 16 day’s, I guess it just depends on what strain you’ve got? But I would just keep a close eye on them every day until I’m very shore of what they are; and as for what time you’ll start seeing buds appear, should be around the third week of flowering in some cases could even go to four, I hope this helps.

Usually after the first week, but some strains do take longer or they may not be sexually mature yet, haven't reached puberty. I use a magnifying glass & sometimes it's still hard to tell until flowering.

Don't get too worked up over it,

You can go a while longer until you actually have to look. Before the males release their pollen, you will definately know the sex of all your plants. And usually, males show first. I know you are anxious, but don't worry, you will definately know when they do show.

My only reason for being impatient when it comes to identifying sex, is that I start twice as much plants as I need, so they start fighting each other for light, when I think I have a male, I put him to the side just to be sure, no sense in him getting all the light, but no sense in throwing him out until I am positive.

It's like Big Toke said, a lot depends on the strain. I just finished Bogs Bubble, and it was very slow to show sex. I have a pure indica strain of NL that I've Bx several times. It almost always shows by 30 days of veg.

good job ... the sex is showed when the plant is mature ......... it can come when in full veg or some plants have to be forced into showing there sex ... when you cut the lights back ... after 9 to 10 days you may see sex of the plant,,,, most time the males are fast growers.fat hollow stalks,and the ones that look the best lol...... but always look for indentifiers,,,,
