First Grow: Purple Barney

Howdy guys,

I've been lurking for long enough and figured it is time to start contributing to the boards. This is my first grow and for the record it is legal :tiphat:. I know most of you guys knock people for trying to go too big on their first go around, but I like the thrill of the unknown and was feeling rather ambitious at the time. Ive had to overcome many obstacles to get to where it is today. I'm growing in a 7x7x7 rubber maid shed with 4x400w aircooled HPS lamps. I have a passive intake via a darkroom lightproof vent, and am running subcool's super soil in 48 10 inch pots (subcools in the bottom 2/3 and Happy Frog in the top 1/3). The strain that I am running is Purple Barney. I don't know much about them other then they flower in 7-8 weeks. This grow is mostly for fun and to be a learning experience. I vegged em out for about 5 weeks (from clone) and last Friday did some defoliating on the bottom branches before I flipped em (no pictures of that yet) Anyway here they are and it's a pleasure to be among you guys!

Thanks med. Lights came on and I just popped in on my ladies. I suppose they're not technically "lollypopped" but I took a fair amount off of each of these bushes around the bottom since i anticipate the room to be a bit overcrowded by week 7 of flowering. Canopy management aint quite my forte yet, but i'm having fun trying :dance013:

I must say that it's very ambitious of you starting out on such a scale. It does look like it's going well though. Best of luck and thanks for sharing.

Thanks hestah, I am happy to share and prove that with enough forethought growing outside in a Rubbermaid shed is possible (at least in coastal California weather). Though it was a pain in the butt to set up and get rid of light leaks yikes!

Here is another photo update. Some plants look better than others, but I am happy with them as a whole. I cant wait to see them fatten up! :woohoo:

They are a bit crowded in there, but the air circulation is excellent. Also sorry for the less than optimal 2nd rate camera phone pictures

These ladies have been getting stinkier, fatter, and more beautiful. Some day I'll invest in an actual camera, but for now my cheap phone must suffice.

Well, this marks my first successful harvest of cannabis. I am overjoyed and ready to imbibe the fruit of my labor. I'll update with curing shots and dry weight when the time comes :)

Thanks Flounder :) During the grow I was doing 50 hour work weeks and knocking out pre-nursing classes so I wasnt able to give these ladies my undivided attention. This entire grow was straight hose water in subcools soil. Next grow I will be more available to tend to them and create a feeding schedule for more robust buds. Right now the plants have been chopped and are hanging upside down in a 70F room at 45-55% RH. Given that I didnt have to fight off mold or pests and had a relatively straightforward grow I am very pleased!

And Roadrash, the tight space was definitely challenging and frustrating at times, especially when it came to hand watering... yikes! Thanks for dropping by :)
