First grow - new teens replace PM clones but are these healthy?!

Hello everyone -

After a failed attempt to start some (what looked like) powdery mildew clones, I decided to start fresh and picked up two teen Green Crack X Afghani plants that I am hoping will produce for my first grow.

After receiving the teens, I noticed that GCA#1 seemed to show signs of what I think is either heat stress OR nute burn OR calcium deficiency...any thoughts? This is Day 5 of the transplant (they were originally in Coco) and I am hoping my transplant didn't kill them.

The transplant happened using a very cold bucket of water to very gently rinse the roots in and remove as much of the coco/soil debris as possible - some of the lower leaves were sub-merged more than others and were probably touched more than they should have been (I was wearing gloves), so I am wondering if that might be why those leaves are turning yellow now?

They currently have a very LOW dose of grow and micro nutrients, with a little bit of root booster (all GH nutes). My tap water comes out around 250PPM (ordered RO system today) and the total PPM of the reservoir now is around 400PPM (only 150PPM of nutes). I am using a blue combo meter to read these levels (500PPM scale).

I am hesitant to up the nute dosage since I am not sure if the grower gave them to me with nute burn already. BUT - I have been looking at the Lucas formula and am intrigued. Should I start them on that? I like the idea of skipping the grow nutes and giving them only micro and flower...but worry about bringing up my PPM that high this early after transplant.

The water temp is currently 66 deg with ice packs in the reservoir and I am adding a chiller unit today. Lights are on 18/6 and the temp in the tent ranges from 60-80F from the coldest times at night to the warmest during the day. Humidity levels between 15-35%. Water PH is exactly 6.0.

I have ordered some Hydroguard (used to be called aquashield) and CaliMagic and will be adding those to my new RO water once I get the system this week.

Any thoughts and advice greatly appreciated!

Collembola

hello,

they just look a bit over-fed to me (nute burn).

i think the yellowing is from the transplant phase;

if you look at GCA # 1 yeloowing, that looks like basic nitrogen deficiency, but if you see the new growth behind it (little leaves on the stem), you can see an overabundance of nutrients and burning.

GCA # 2 leaf is too much nitrogen developing, although i would take as reasurance that they are not burned etc (hopefully becoming accustomed to higher levels)

-----

i grow in compost so dunno about various nutrients, hydro related questions etc, but all in all, they look fine, i think just showing story of their past.

i like the look of GCA # 2 though!, it looks like it has alot of potential.

regards.

Thanks for the input Collembola! I will be watching them closely over the next couple days.

The roots in that first pic could be problematic...hope I'm wrong. Got into dwc about 5 years ago after success in top feed recirc rockwool. Long story short, many problems including brown roots, yellowing, root rot, fungus gnats...and am now killing it w coco in fabric pots. Still utilize some of the hydro techniques as that's my passion. I understand the difficulty in ditching dwc but for me was the best decision I've made. Think maybe I just got the nastys and they are persistent. keep an eye on the roots, if they're getting brown, mushy, or slimy...

thanks medical! going to stick with the dwn for now - have been monitoring them closely and providing clean PH water with low nute dosage. Nothing seems slimey, stinky or anymore brown than when I pulled them from the coco pots they were in (actually I see the bottom roots are turning lighter/whiter.

I ordered an RO system for my water as well as some hydroguard, which supposedly can work magic to prevent root rot and promote healthy bacteria. I also setup a 1/10hp AACH10 chiller tonight, so no more changing ice packs for me :) Hoping they are just showing a little stress from the transplant and will bounce back in a few days!

Good to hear! Keep updating this thread, I'd like to see how it goes...maybe get the buckets out again.
