first grow need some general advice

Hello all ICers this is my first post, but I've been on this site day and night for months. No matter how much I read and really think I know whats going on its completely different once you actually start getting things up and running. Keeping in mind this is my first grow I'm very pleased with the way things are going. Although I have a few questions more or less just for reassurment. First I'll explain my setup and such.

I started out with 2 clones of OG Kush and 2 of strawberry cough, technically I guess just cuttings. The rooting process went fine and growth continued as normal. Transplanted into two L let it fill out then went straight to 5 gal. I used a 400w metal halide for veg and am now using a 400w hps for flowering. Fox Farm Ocean Forest with chunky perlite. Ive been using fox farm nutrients and am following the provided schedule nearly to the teeth but by recommendation of the local hydro store owner Im using a reduced dose of tiger bloom. Ive also been using mollasses on the non nutrient feedings. I vegged for approxiamtely 6 weeks maybe 7. The two strawberry cough ended up beeing increadibly bushy about 2 ft tall each but also about a foot and a half in diameter. The two og's are about 30in each. Lights on the temps are about 80 and off about 75, humidity stays between 50-55 usually. Two box fans are used, one to cool off the lamp and one mainly for air exchange.

Now for some questions.

This is officially the third day of flowering. The ogs are looking fine. The two coughs on the other hand have some leaves that aren't yellowing but turning to a much brighter green instead of the usual dark green. Just wondering what could have caused this and if it presents any problems.

The kush arent too bushy and should have no problems with light penetration. The coughs although are increadibly dense. Im not sure if im supposed to be trimming them or what. I know there is plenty of information on this topic but I couldnt really make a decision without having a tailor fit answer to my circumstances. Should I be pruning this, and if so, what should I specifically be removing? I considered tying back some of the fan leaves but it is really REALLY dense they are nearly as wide as they are tall. Suggestions?

Ive read over and over that plants doulbe in heigth during flowering is this true when the plants were vegged for so long? How big should I be expecting my girls to get? On that note I know its a stupid newbie question that really doesnt have an answer but any guesses on yield?

Thanks for reading and all information is greatly appreciated. If pics would help, (which they obviously will) I can put some up, but Id rather not if its not nessecary.

p.s. 10in far enough away from light?

Where's this light green coloration happening? Bottom leaves, new growth, tips of leaves, etc...

I've had two genetics in the same setup before that had COMPLETELY different nutrient needs, maybe the strawberry cough just wants a little more nitrogen than the og kush?

Since you're into flowering now, I wouldn't cut away anything that's potentially going to be smoked later on, but that's just me. can you maybe use some kind of tie downs or something to pull the tops away from eachother a little bit?

From the mediocre at best experience in growing I can boast about, I would count on an inch + a day for the first two weeks of flower, but not much after that. 10 inches from a 400w should be fine, in my experience, even without any ventilation.

now that I inspect it a little more there is a few og leaves doing it. Im probably just nervous. It seems that the lighter green is coming from the middle of the leaf and branching out leaving the edges of the leaf with a nice green. Ima gonna get some pics up. It will be better that way.

Any comments or suggestions not specific to the questions asked would also be helpful thanks.

If you use your 400mh for the first two weeks it sould keep your strech down. Also a big thing is keeping those lights as close as possible without buring them. Also the less difference between night and day temps is supposed to help with strech, dont quote me on that one.Ive always used a 400hps with a eyehortilux bulb, its has alot more than normal hps bulbs.I also use a cool-tube so my light is VERY close to my canopy;i get VERY little stech usally 6''.Just my two cents, good luck.PS sounds like you have some very nice strains.

you ideally want to keep your lights 10-12 inches away from the plant so your fine where you are just keep raising it as they grow is all.

magnesium deficiency is usually the cause of leaves turning a pale green during flowering. buy cal-mag from your local growshop and add that into the next couple waterings youll see itll fix that problem right away.

as for pruning i wouldnt prune any healthy growth if i were you. never prune during flowering, tugging dead/yellowed leaves right off the stems is a different story but the plant needs all its leaves to continue rapid growth, the only reason to remove leaves is if theyre dying

I like to continue grow nutes on my soil grows for the first 7-10 days of flower.....otherwise the yellowing starts on me too.

I found a picture in a sick plant guide that looked nearly identical to my situation, (http://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=11688 at almost the bottom of the page) proposing it's caused from temperature differences at night and day. I did just switch and its the first time that closet has had the light out. I wouldnt be surprised if the temp difference was it. How is this effecting my plant, should this be something Im worried about? Needing a hasty remedy or am I just being over precautious?

thanks

Fellow newbie here :)

Check my grow out. Your plants could get VERY big. Mine vegged for 33 days. were 16-19 inches tall when switched to 12/12 under a 400watt el cheap HPS light. Two of the 4 went to 4 feet the other two just under 4 feet.

Obviously, I'm not familiar with your strains but you will be amazed at how fast they can grow.

I used all Fox Farm nutes . Go EASY on them. I never used at more than 1/2 strength. My plants are at day 59 of flower. Buds are so heavy the branches have sagged and broken. Stake your plants NOW. Don't make my mistake. I'm hoping like hell the trics change soon. These plants of mine are having a hard time standing up. I got them tied all kinds of ways. I don't want to loose any more branches.

Go look at my grow. It's pretty well documented every few days. You're in for a treat but be careful. My best advice is GO EASY on nutes. I also used FF Beastie Bloom last half of flowering or so.

Cheers
