Hey guys,

I'm starting my first grow and I would like to welcome everybody's thoughts on my setup. The goal is simple, to grow top shelf cannabis that is for personal use.

The set-up
2 x 4 x 5 tent
4 inch kleen air carbon filter (rated for a 6 x 6 x 6 room)
4 inch inline exhaust blower with adjustable speed control, 190 cfm
2, 1 x 1 foot 420 W full spectrum grow lights (actual watts 180 - 350)

on-hand supplies
PH up and down
Tiger bloom liquid
CaMg+
Epsom salt
Cloning gel, propagation trays, and rockwhool cubes
perlite
fine vermiculite
Fox Farm Ocean Soil
Crushed sea shells
Jiffy mix seedling soil

Genetics
10 Hindu Kush seeds
1 feminized blue cheese seed

Where I am now
I am just waiting on getting some course sand and vermiculite and than I will start 4 Hindu Kush seeds in solo cups. I'm still learning everything lol I should have the inline fan in a few days too

Looks nice man. Seems like you've been doing some research of your own. What is the brand of those LED's you have? I just started using some newer LED lights (to me anyway).

global star LED lights. I hope they are strong enough to grow medical grade cannabis. I'm under the assumption that genetics and lights play the largest role in the quality of the medicine.

Genetics definitely play a role in the strength of the cannabis. I wouldn't so much say lighting is the other part. Yes light is important, but environment plays a much larger role.

You could have 10, 1000 watt lights in a room, and if the environment is outta whack, the harvest size , and quality can be shit.

You could have a single 13 watt cfl and if the environment is tuned in, the single bud you harvest will be top quality(assuming the strain is potent) .

But don't get me wrong, lighting is important. I'm using some Chinese LED's I just got. My big one has 4 100 watt diodes, and the small one is a single 150 watt diode. Within the next 2 months I will see how theystack up to traditional lighting.

Just planted
4 Hindu kush seeds
1 feminized blue cheese seed

used this for the soil

I'm taking a solo cup and cutting a few small drainage holes in the bottom. I will then fill the cup with my soil.

The soil recipe is
2/3 qt of jiffy mix and 1/3 qt of Fox Farm Ocean Forest as the base
2 cups of course verm
2 cups perlite
1/4 cup crushed oyster shells
1/4 cup course sand
mix 1 tsp of epsom salts per gallon of soak water

then do a hole 3/4 diameter. 1.25' deep in the center of the seed mix
fill in the hole with verm and just let it wick the moisture
then plant the seed like 3/8ths inch below the soil level and top with verm
keep that shit barely damp and somewhat sterile
want the soil to feel spongy and not soggy when wet

looks good so far liquidcutter
just a pointer, plants at this stage are very prone to dampoff.
it's a fungal thing,
stagnant moist air is a prime environment for it to rear it's ugly head.
it attacks the tender stalk at the soil surface causing it to wither and die.... air movement around your plants is all it takes to avoid it.
this is the 1st thing you see with dampoff, once it's at this point of falling over it's most likely toast.

I see one falling over, could be a couple things dampoff and the lite source too far away
and this is probably it because I see the another
with enlongated stem
if the light source is too far away and the plant is using it's resources more to reaching for the lite instead of growing leaves.
Ive never used an LED so I don't know how hot they are but you need lite closer to those plants

after a few days i use HO T5s and get the bulbs 2-3" from the plants tops and run a small fan between them.
but to be honest once they sprout If possible
put them outdoors and back under lights at the end of the day
