First grow, First cabinet, questions :)

Hi everyone, I am planning my first grow which I will be starting in the coming weeks and have some questions.

Fire prevention is my major concern, I'll be running this grow in an old hollowed out dresser in my closet, dimensions are 36"H-29"W-16"D, due to this small space and lack of funds I'm planning on running 3-6 CFL's, what is the safest way to run my CFL's, fan, timer and inline fan? Should I just run a powerstrip from an outlet in my room into the dresser and plug everything into that?

As far as the CFL's go would it be better to put them in a cheap lighting fixture, like a bathroom light strip, or get those adapters that let you go from an outlet to the bulb in another power strip?

Also if anyone has any suggestions on a nice quiet inline fan I would appreciate it. Stealth is going to be key for me with this setup.

Thanks

bathroom fixtures work great with cfl's, intake and exhaust are a must, you will need at least 1 timer, its your choice on how to run the wires and as long as you dont overload your sockets you should be fine

Thanks, also with the CFL's I have not been able to find what type I need to get from Wally World. I used to know even got them once but never followed through with my grow and returned them. I've read about using 2 different types of light with the CFL's, is that needed?

Sorry about this question cause I know its a basic one but I've been looking and can't find an answer I'm comfortable/confident in, want to get it right know what I'm saying?

I know I'll learn alot once I start my grow and I've been reading ALOT, hahaha, but being a beginner can be intimidated.

You're talking about the light's color spectrum or K (kelvin). You want 6500k (kelvin) for vegetative growth. And 2700k or 3500k (kelvin) for flowering. You can either use one for veg, and one for flower, or you can use both during your entire grow.

They also make 'full spectrum' CFL's which are 4500 or 5100k, they're a mix of both spectrums.

Hope this helps

I didn't want to make a new thread, so I thought I could ask a question in here as well:

I'm in the process of constructing my rubbermaid tub, ala r_g, and while I'm not an idiot concerning electricity, one thing in the back of my mind won't be settled unless someone answers it for me (search did not return anything useful, either) - The bathroom vanity 3 light fixture I'm using has a grounding wire.

Do I need to ground it to anything since its in a plastic environment?

Thanks!

You should consider buying a 150 watt hps light if you're going to invest money for a inline fan. www.e-conolight.com has one you can get one for 50 dollars shipped. But for hid lighting you will need a inline fan or blower that has around 1 cfm per watt of hid lighting, but if you use a air cooled light you only need .5 cfm per watt and like .3 per watt for cooltubes.

I would get individual sockets, instead of a row fixture. This allows you to put the light exactly where it's needed. You'll be able to drop bulbs vertically in between the plants.A nice potato chip bag reflector placed directly above the bulb will reflect light back down on the tops of your plants,so no overhead lights are needed. This guy I know
 hangs them from the bar in the the closet.

For flowering anyway.

Veg,that's a whole other ball of wax,guy uses a shop (48") light with T12 Gru-Lux bulbs,and they rock.Much faster growth than veging with CFL's.

This helped alot! Thanks.

I'm going to be constructing my box within a week and was thinking about using a power strip with socket adapters so I don't have to mess around wiring any bathroom light fixtures. That way I can also plug in a small oscilating fan right to the strip.

I was also planning on using a Vaportronic Wall Cabinet System for odor removal, http://www.hidhut.com/catalog/vaportronic-wall-cabinet-system-p-496.html .
What do you guys think of this low-key setup to start my first grow? Grow space will be 36"H-29"W-16"D with a possible extra 4-5 inches in height, I'll be growing bagseed for atleast the first grow and figured i could get 4-6 plants in that space. I'm also considering moving to 12/12 fairly soon to try and keep the plants smaller but still be able to reach maturity.

How many CFl's should I try and put in there? 3,4?

Like I said any tips would be helpful and appreciated.
