First grow ever

Sorry if this is the wrong forum.
I was going to post this in outdoor but I'm completely new to this so hopefully it will be okay here.

So I have access to some clones and I have picked out an area that I think looks good. Now my friend that has been doing this for a while swears up and down that he doesn't do anything other than till up the ground and use what's already there but to me it looks like mostly clay or mud and it's pretty much all the same around here so I can't imagine his spot is much different.

So I've included a couple pictures. One is of the native soil and one is just a general area with some briars and similar sized growth that I plan to grow in/around. I know it's not much so far, but let me know what you think.

Hey , Im a novice at growing mj outdoors But im well experienced in gardening in general and that dirt looks awesome to me.The tiny little moss growing under the grass in the pic suggests you've got a spot thats not bone dry....Just be sure you dont have a drainage issue. good luck

first grow ever, i'd say just play around with what you got, maybe buy soil for a few plants, put some in the dirt and compare.

First ditch the "buddy" ;) Do it yourself my friend.

Go HERE, and do some major reading  Give it your best shot this year, but plan for next year the whole time.

dig a nice deep hole (around 2 and a half feet deep) and make a nice soil mix. remember the following: the happier the roots, the happier the shoots. ganj likes a nice airy soil that drains well. the mix that worked well for me last year on my first grow was fox farm ocean forest, about 25-30% chunky perlite (the chunkier it is, the better the aeration), earth worm castings for a source of nitrogen that is very available to the roots, and some vermiculite to hold water.

stay away from chemical fertilizers like miracle grow. we have thumbs to be stewards of Earth, not destroyers of her. experiment with tying down the stems (Low Stress Training LST) and topping or FIMing. best of luck man! growing your own smoke is a great feeling, gives you a little something extra to wake up for in the morning.
