First Grow 5x Menage a' trois & 11 Speed Queens [Outdoor]

T

twisztdauthorit

Hey guys, hope i started this thread in the right area. This is my first grow ever so hopping it goes well.

Have all events marked down on Google calendar, seems quite handy if anyone else ever tried it.

Anyways my grow is 11x Speed Queens (i got an extra one by accident) and a bonus 5x Menage a' Trois i got of Seedbay.com

Started germing all 5x Menage a' trois and 6x Speed Queens on June 7, 2007.

Speed Queens were the first to crack but the Menage a' Trois beet them to the soil.

I like taking pictures so there will be plenty in this thread :woohoo:

For Referance i will call

SpeedQueens : SQ
Menage a' Trois : MT

Note this is my first grow, and a very low budget grow hence the outdoors.

Any comments, criticism, and hints are appreciated.

Now for the PICS!

[Menage a' trois ]

Mostly Indica
Veg time 3-4 weeks
55-60 days Flower Time
ec 1.0-2.0

And:

50% Indica 50% Sativa

[SpeedQueen]

# Type: mostly indica Contains land race genetics from Himachal Pradesh, North India
# Flowering time: 55 days
# Cultivation: Outdoor (up to 45° latitude/greenhouse): September
# Yield: 400-450 gr/m2 (dry weight)
# Effect: the "surfers" choice - a stimulating, and balanced indica buzz that does not put you to sleep. Pleasantly relaxing yet leaves plenty of energy for social activities and is a great daytime grass.

Sounds like a few good strains. I have heard a little about SQ but nothing about MT. Do you know if its sativa/indica, flowering time, or anything else about it.

In the mean while i made the small temporary containers that will hold them for up to a few weeks hopefully. 16oz drinking cups and here are pics.

No FoxFarm soil or anything but i used what i had in my backyard for now.

And a very small bag of this mixed in to everything.

weird little worm thing i found in one of the cups.. killed it just in case it was a bad one

June 12:
though tthis was a cool pic

and then the 4 MT thats sprouted today.

MT #1

MT #2

MT #3

MT #4

I had 5 SQ left and i thought i would save them but i figured i might as well do them right now since i can get another set of them for 20$ within 2 weeks time if i have to.
So here are the 5 SQ that i just put in germing about 1 hour ago.

Quick question, would you guys want me to upload higher res pics or are these fine?

the 4 sprouted MT are doing very well in the sun.

The SQ seem to be lagging behind as they show no signs of coming up to the surface.

update:
I just dug around lightly in the dirt in SQ #1 and 4 and it seems there roots have dug in to the soil for what i could see so those should sprout hopefully within the next 1-2 days.

I really thought the SQ would have been faster at sprouting but it might have been my fault.

more pics to come by tomorrow morning.

Do you guys think i should add a fluorescent light or 2 outside to increase the light to 18/6 to help the plants along or just leave them with the sunlight they get naturally?

no comments =(

anyways i went and rigged myself up a small light device to put over my 4 MTs at night temporairly(depends on how long it holds up)

it only has a small 22w fluro in it but with the reflective foil it seems to bright to look straight at.

It has an auto shut off light sensor on it which should be helpful.

This way i can maximize the amount of light these babies can get for now.

Let me know if i did anything wrong.

here are the pics.

Gheto yes it it but its all i had to work with.

Seems plenty bright to me for those little babies

And doesn't attract to much attention, looks like any simple backyard lighting

guess people don't like to write on newbies threads ;) well maybe ill get lucky when it gets better.

Quite disappointed in that the SQ are still stuck in the ground... it seems like one of them got root shock and the root hasn't grown since the last 2 days. =(
dont know whats going on with the other 4, so i just watered them and covered em back up with plastic wrap.

The MT are doing quite well took some macro shots this morning. Ill post them up in a second.

Hey Twisz, Careful using soil when starting your seeds. Seeds/seedlings are susceptible to damping off, a fungus found in soils. Better to fill your cups with a soiless growing mix or germination mix.
I have some speed queen that I was going to put out this year, but too little room/time. I will be checking in with your grow. Good Luck!

Thank you Mycall
I will be sure to start off in a different grow median next time as i could already see the advantages it would have. Im thinking if i can get any cash, i might try to do a hydroponics setup if im lucky.

Hope you guys dont mind all the pictures :yummy:

those 16 oz cups seem to be getting dry quickly so i tend to water atleast 2-3 times a day... There sitting in straight sun for atleast a few hours and since its summer, the temps are ranging from 67 to a 100+ degrees. Hopefully its not to hot for them but i keep them well watered.

it says on the internet the the humidity in my area is around 21-27% :yoinks:
doesnt sound to good. Will this harm my plants and what can i do to fix it.

My dad has okayed building a large greenhouse at our ranch and i can sneak in a few plants but it will be a while before that gets built.

Bad News:

Seems as if the first 6 speedqueens that were in soil are all dead.
one by one i checked the seeds, no roots i picked them up, and gave a little squish and this white puss came out. There roots had no chance of coming back =(

Why this may have happend:
#1 i may have touched the seeds with my bare hands when moving from germ to cup.
( i was careful not to touch the roots)
#2 Did not keep them in Germ long enough, i think the seeds where in shock and never fully recovered.
#3 The cups may have been too wet

i have my last 5 speedqueens In germination right now, id really like to get some rockwool this time but idk where the best place to get it is for cheap? Anyone?

As for the MT, the weather has been hot and i feel they are striving. The last one is still struggling to spread its little leaves ;)

but they are still alive and thats what matters

the weather will reach up to 100 degrees today again and a low of 73. Its getting really hot =(

Help

I really need advice on how to keep the plants cool and still have them receive needed sunlight.

Over watering is one of the biggest problems for new growers. You gotta let that soil dry out so the roots will stretch to find water. I bet all of us in this community have made that mistake from time to time. Not so much h2o next time good luck with your living sprouts ill be checking in!! grow safe tell noone!!

I also thought that if you let it dry, the roots would stretch. Seems i'm not the only one with the fantastic idea.:chin: None the less, water evaporates pretty fast out here, not very humid at all. (lets just say my city used to be a desert)

I got some potent plant enhancer stuff to add to the water.. i believe it 1/4 tsp per gallon.. Ill find the name and post it later. I will water it one time in the morning with this.. and i may spray it with a spray bottle once or twice throughout the day to keep it semi moist. But ill take your advice and try to keep it on the dryer side now..

i elevated the cups on a metal grid so the holes on bottom will drain much better now. Seems like new growth is coming up from the younger sprouts too...

for my 5 seeds i have left, i have an order of rockwool and a humidity tray coming in the mail within a few days. Ill let the seeds grow longer roots before moving them (seemed to work better when i did that with the MT).

added some perlite to the top layer of soil. Any idea what the browning is?

Its 103 degrees out right now and the sun is shinning bright!

im sweating my balls off right now, might have to go for a swim.

I put a cooking pan of water underneath the plants in an effort to keep humidity up and temps down, i doubt it will make much of a difference though.

I also came across 2 work lights i have. They are 13 watt fluros which seem to be quite bright so i may end up putting those up for the nights. any ideas?

Sunlight is providing approx 15/9 of light/dark

i just got my rockwool cubes in today so i put my last 5 SQ seeds that have been germing in there. Hopefully something will come out of it.

Hoping to have pics up by tomorrow.
