EDINBURG, Texas (AP) - Some people get intoxicated watching a fire. But a group of Texas firefighters got high battling one.

When a warehouse in Edinburg containing more than 900 kilograms of marijuana spent up in smoke Wednesday, firefighters spent half an hour battling the blaze.

Fire Chief Shawn Snider almost three dozen firemen were exposed to so much marijuana smoke that they would not have been able to pass a drug test, despite wearing air packs to prevent them from inhaling toxic or hazardous fumes.

Snider said it took more than 35 firefighters, almost 4,000 litres of water and 20 litres of chemical suppressant to extinguish the blaze.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents were investigating the origin of the drugs.

Meanwhile, local officials were investigating whether arson was the cause of the fire.

EDINBURG, Texas - Firefighters who spent half an hour fighting a blaze in which 2,000 pounds of marijuana went up in smoke breathed so much of it that they would have failed a drug test, a fire chief said.

It took more than 35 firefighters, 1,000 gallons of water and five gallons of chemical suppressant to extinguish the warehouse blaze on Wednesday, Fire Chief Shawn Snider said.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents were investigating the origin of the drugs. The Hidalgo County fire marshal was investigating whether arson was the cause.

Snider said Thursday the firefighters were exposed to so much marijuana smoke that they would not be able to pass a drug test, despite wearing air packs to prevent them from inhaling toxic or hazardous fumes.

yes it took 1,000 gallons of water and over 5 gallons of chemical suppressant to quench the fire, but how many twinkies ding dongs and other assorted junk foods did it take to quell the firefighters munchies? i mean i have cooked for firefighters in the past and they EAT, i can only imagine a firefighter with the munchies.
