Yes, a fire extinguisher to the right of the door, where I can find it even in the dark.

buckets of water hanging from some string overhead. fire burns string, water puts out fire.

JK! my fire suppression is using only quality components and making sure everything is installed in a safe manner. using all fluoro's helps too

I dont care who you are, thats funny.

My basement came with 2 fire sprinklers. The previous homeowner put them in or had someone put them in. I did a little googling and it seems pretty hard to get the sprinklers. Seems like you have to get a pro to do it. My sprinklers are tapped into the existing water lines running around the basement, so install looks easy.

You could have the sprinklers put in before you built your grow and explain its going to be a wood shop. Its not uncommon for wood dust to self combust

i was thinking of an idea for a while involving a powder substance as the suppressor. for example bags of flour overhead in a bag that would not burn but maybe melt at a high temp. when there is a fire and it would let loose all the flour or whatever powder and extenguish the fire. Just an idea though never came up with a good plan.

Check out Fireboy Automatic Fire Suppression Systems. They are heat activated discharge at 165 degrees F. They are mostly used in engine compartments of ships. Safety First...

McChris, the powder system isn't a terrible idea, although you're going to need a whole lot of powder to be sure you put out a fire big enough to burn string tied to the ceiling.

More importantly, DO NOT USE FLOUR! I don't mean to yell, but having air full of flour in a closed room on fire will cause an explosion. Flour doesn't burn easily on it's own, but once you mix it with air it burns very quickly. Try plugging up both sides of a toilet paper tube, shaking around a tablespoon or so of flour until the air inside is dusty with it, and throw in a match.

You'd be much better off with baking soda. A lot of people keep a box of arm and hammer next to their stoves in case of grease fires. Again, though, you'd need a shitload of it to be sure it put out the fire unattended.

DangerP-good looks man i never knew that about flour. like i said i didn't do a lot of planning just one of those random ideas while stoned you know.haha. i plan to just have multiple fire extinguishers in the house as my safety plan.

Just a heads up here. Flour is extreamly combustable in dusty form. I'll save you the chemistry and say surface area is the key.. it makes a big explosion.. I've done it. If your about to drop a poweder make sure its in a big huge clump and probally baking soda is fine (im not sure) but I KNOW dumping flour is dangerous.

I have fire extinguishers mounted all over the place. I also have smoke alarms and carbon monoxide alarms. A garden hose happens to be handy as well which will help.

I think prevention is a good approach. Check your wiring twice and then check it again. Hell, have your buddy check it too.

fire extinguishers are good and relatively cheap but who sits in their grow 24/7? Who sits in their house 24/7?

I think proper planning and building/wiring is key. Your grow should really not anymore of a fire risk then anything else in the house.

I keep my 10 thousand candles burning on propane tanks under their tin foil and Styrofoam reflector no fans! works perfectly! if you got the money having the sprinklers would be fuckin perfect! guess a fire extinguisher tho... don't wrap your electrical shit in wet blankets?

The Fireboy is your best bet. I have three protecting my room. Got them off E-bay for about $300.00. Also have a smoke detector wired such that it cuts power to the room if it smells smoke. I take my fire protection (and everything else) about my room seriously.
