Finding good spots

This has been inspired by the post your best spots thread. It is hard to find good spots even in less urban areas. Even if there are a lot of woods. I have been looking for new spots because half of last years got found. I am telling you I am not having SHIT for luck. Its so frustrating the woods are so thick and there are no clearings besides for rocks and swamps. The best spots ive found got found by rippers because they were too close to roads/ trails. However it seems like the further you go into the woods the less likely you are to find a clearing. The only way I can find clearings is early in the year like this when there are no leaves on trees it is somewhat easy to see where the sky is not obstructed from a distance....I guess i just gotta put more time and engery into it. Does anyone have a good strategy for finding good locations? Im fresh out of ideas and needs new spots pronto! :chin:

Why not make clearings? Maybe use the trees u chop down to help construct a reservoir like backcountry did. Though streams and rivers make it easier to water your plants, they often attract people and animals.

Ive thought of that but it never really seemed logical or worth it. Wouldnt it make it much more obvious if someone did end up walking by it if they seen a bunch of fresh tree stumps?.... If im gonna be plantin around those stumps isnt it likely the digging will suck because of all the roots? Its not a bad idea though if i cant find any more spots.

maybe we should make a top 10 of places where it's safe to grow, or of places people wouldn't accidentaly wander to....although that would make it easyer for leos and ripers. they would also know where to look... hmmm...

DD - ever thought of raised beds?

Lol... if they saw a bunch of fresh tree stumps then ur spot sucks as it is. You gotta go deeper in the forest. Youd probably have to dig out soil anyways, though the roots would b a bitch. Wat state u in?

look for jagger bushes.

In the beginning, God made POT.
Then, he made Man...but that fucker kept Ripping him OFF.
Jagger bushes, an 8th-day creation, was the only logical thing to do to keep their naked asses away from his stash.

Do'h!!!!!!!! Wrong thread!!!! :fsu:

But to make this post relevant:

Some times I use google earth to look at satellite pictures of the area. THis dosn't tell you anyhing besies if the spot MIGHT be a good area. You have to atually visit it of course to really find out. But it does give you an idea of where water, houses, and things like that are.

After that, I try and look for a spot that gets good sun light, but is still hidden. These two goals usally conflcit with each other though. Natural bariers such as thorns and posion ivy (even thoguh i'm really allergic to it :(), help deter people from walking upon yopur spot.

How ever, the area I live in is pretty densley populated and makes finding a spot that is "away" almost imposible. So I go with the "don't put all your eggs in one basket" idea. Spread your spots out, and at least a couple will make it to harvest.
